Just seen Windtalkers

This has got to be one of the worst choices of a director ever

imagine John Woo the lover of slow mo action directing realistic graphic war scenes

not good very distastful

the film was ok it just could have been so much better

oh and if you do decide to see it look out for the 30 year old stock footage of battle ships firing at the enemy what the hell was that all about?

i just seen this film it was ok. The sounds of the battles scenes were excellent it scared the Sh*t out of me. That was only thing great about the film to me. I usually don`t jump but this film did make me. Oh and what about the CGI planes. Just Terrible !!!

The same thing happened in We were Soldiers, about 6 choppers flying off to the battle scene then some realy horrific CGI with about 30! Then back to 6 again. They could of left that shot out and no one would of noticed.

Watched it last night and it wasn't too bad.

True it wasn't 'Hard Boiled' but then his usual style would have been in bad taste for a largely true story.

Got a bit jingoistic and gung-ho in a John Wayne style but worth watching.

We won't even mention Broken Arrow

watching this on dvd at the mo... utter utter rubbish, terrible casting, terrible acting (nic cage should be ashamed) but the direction is some of the worst I have seen in a long time. what a complete mess of a film.

just watching that battleship stock footage now and it looks like they've tried to clean it up digital and colour correct it to the film. pathetic!

I've seen We Were Soldiers 4 or 5 times and I've never noticed that
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

I'll let Windtalkers drop to a reasonable price (£7 or less if someone wants to sell me their copy) before I chance my arm on that one. Can't say I've ever been too impressed with Mr Woo's output beyond Hong Kong

i'm actually going back on what I said slightly here... the first half was utter toilet... the second half (after a certain character dies... horribly ) was actually above average.

but Bobbles you're right, all that blood and gore doesn't sit happily with such a flashy director.

It would've taken more than that I think.

Nic Cage hardly spoke and generally looked like a big stiff throughout. I usually enjoy his performances, but this one felt like he couldn't be bothered.

Story was generally unexciting.

I got rid of my copy, but might pick it up again if it ever gets dirt cheap as there were some nice moments though - just a shame they were so few and far between.

Just had a convo with a friend that went a bit like this (me in bold):

"Windtalkers any good?"

"Yeah, not bad"

Those CG planes looked a bit crap, eh?

"Yes!"

"Man, Black Hawk Down really set the standard when it comes to war film CG"

"What CG?!"

"Exactly!"

Bwehehehe...

Haven't seen Pearl Harbour so I can't make any comparisons to that, but I thought the CG in BHD was exceptional. I didn't realise that so much of it was computer-generated until I watched the extras. Quite suprising because I took the visuals totally for granted the first time I watched it.

MuFu.

Thats what good CGI is all about. I'm sure MR D would agree.
