Thanks: Gave 2, Got 12
Just seen: K-19 The Widowmaker

Supposingly this movie is based on true events though the remark "Inspired by true events" during the opening credits may be more accurate.
It took 28 years for this story to be told and strangely another 13 (if I got my maths correct) to become a movie starring Harrison Ford as captain and Liam Nesson as, ahem, captain of an atomar powered submarine in distress.
The movie is strictly from a Russian point of view, kind of novelity as usually the Americans try to be the heros (but not always are) but then again this movie is not really about heros in the usual meaning of the word.
It's not a war movie so expect no depth charges, enemy contact is limited to taking pictures of bare butts only.

That said the movie is rather gripping, portraying the fate and possible events on board of said submarine which could have resulted in a nuclear war back in 1961.

As usual I am probably not qualified to make such an statement but found the acting very good, as well story and ending are interesting and acceptable respectively.
Thus I highly recommend the movie but note that I found that in some scenes objects on screen weren't sharp, instead blurred while others were clear enough to assume it was not the cinemas fault but rather the film or print itself.

* * * * 1/2 out of 5
