Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
So what did you think of this one-off special, before the series starts sometime.
Watched it with nieces, they loved it, and makes up for the fact they are not allowed to watch torchwood.
For me it was ok, no different to Dr Who, but without the kids and tardis, says it all really. The fx of the banes were quite good for a kids series.

Re: Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
I recorded it on my Freeview DVR while watching the footy and recording SW on SKY, I'll probably watch it later in the week to see how it compares to it's two more "mature" sister shows.
I don't think I will be surprised if it gets a warm reception after my disappointment with the Dr Who special and TW as a whole

Re: Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
Umm, Fry and the Slurm factory from Futurama anyone?
That said, I kinda liked it.

Re: Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
Missed it - didn't even know it was due a screening anytime soon (I thought it was still in production)! Anyone know if it's repeated.

Me too, forgot all about it. Had a quick look through the planner and can't see any mention of it.

Re: Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
One brief cameo of K9. I don't think he's in the series again. Sarah Jane uses sonic lipstick to get out of anything in the same way the doctor uses a sonic screwdriver for everything.

Re: Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
Hi,
Firstly, if you missed it, then you weren't looking hard enough! It was listed in my mammoth Christmas/new Year TV Update which can still be found here! Please take a look at it, as it will probably prove quite useful to you all!
Secondly, "The Sarah Jane Adventures" was okay. It was definitely aimed more for younger "Dr Who" fans, but there were some nice touches, especially naming the road that the young girl and her dad now live on, as Bannerman Road! Those of you, with longer memories, may know that the BannerMen were a race of evil aliens, that appeared in a Sylvester McCoy episode of "Dr Who" back in the mid-80's called "Delta And The Bannermen"! There was also the nice "dig" at late-90's and early-00's, bland TV stars, when the young black girl Keishea (I think) calls the bad male factory tourguide "a bit forgettable, like James Blunt"!
Will wait to see how the series turns out, later in the year though, before I make a final decision as to the shows worth. At the minute, though, a reasonable 7.5 out of 10.

Re: Sarah Jane Smith Adventures
i thought it was pretty good, im 24 and i fairly enjoyed it. if i was a kid i'm sure i would have absolutely loved it. decent storyline although it seemed to be a 'homage' to the slurm factory episode in futurama.
i enjoyed the scene in sarah-janes attic with all her mementos from her time with the doctor.

Longer memories! It was only a few years ago! Or are you trying to tell me that I'm nearly two decades closer to death?

a reference to the worst era of Dr Who that .... Mel friggin' Bush (Bonnie Bloody Langford!! )
Marginally better than the awful K9 & Company (failed pilot from 80/81, that this is a revival of, but without K9 ); though that Keishea did nothing but annoy me, especially her head movements.
Btw wasn't that alien fairy thingy that visited Sarah Jane identical in appearance to the alien from a recent episode of Torchwood, played in its/her human form by Daniela Denby-Ashe (of Eastenders/My Family)??
EDIT ... confirmed here ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_the_Bane#Continuity): The alien who Sarah Jane helps to send home is of the same race as Mary, previously seen in the Torchwood episode Greeks Bearing Gifts, whose home planet had not been named before

Ummm... I should probably not comment on your age. But bearing in mind I'm only 29, and remember watching that awful "Delta And The Bannermen" story on BBC1 when it was originally shown, I think it's fairly safe to say that you've aged a couple of decades!
Having said that, your secret's safe with me!
