Re: Standoff - recommended?

Mines bursting also with this waiting to be watched, if it's anywhere near as good as it looked on the advert it'll be worth watching.
I'll be watching on Monday with any luck but that's probably longer than you wanted to wait.

I'll be lucky - the wife is watching X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Jungle thingy etc etc and then, of course, later on it will be LOST, so Standoff will come later in the week after Bones and Las Vegas - jesus, what did we do before Sky+?????

Any review / comment would be much appreciated

Re: Standoff - recommended?

Standoff is an excellent show. The 2 standout episodes are actually the latest, episode 6 - One Shot Stop and 7 - Man of Steele. Actually, Episode 4 - Partners in crime is pretty darned decent too.

The show has a good pace and some humour in there too and they've manged to get some pretty decent people in the to do the roles. It gives an insight, whether true or not, into how hostage negotiations are worked around and how they have to gain the trust of the hostage taker.

Definitely one to watch

Thanks a lot Mindcrime. Obviously a little ahead of us in Canada but your advice has saved it from being deleted from the planner ..... now, a time to watch it ....

Re: Standoff - recommended?

The first episode was good but two things spoil it for me 1) the main girls nose is just massive - could not concentrate, just kept staring at it. 2) it has Gina Torres in it - she realllllllyyyy annoys me for some reason - about the only thing I can bear her in is Firefly and even then its a close run thing.

I will continue to watch it for the moment,at least till something else better comes along

Watched the first two (of the seven odd I've got so far) episodes which I enjoyed.

Recommended.

Re: Standoff - recommended?

very enjoyable, finally got round to watching my +'d first episode....

not too intense in the details dept, a nice simple build up process, bit like Bones or Eureka.....i'm talking about plot here obviously before anyone picks on my Bones mentioning, we all know the level of scientific detail in that is very intricate...heh

definitely gonna keep recording this....

have to say, Sky's pulling out some good tricks so far this winter, Bones, Stand Off, Dom Jollys Happy Hour (first one in Russia ruled...heh, cant wait for Mexico...never got in to his original TV show, but this is good), hopefully BSG 3rd series soon, oh and this Lost season 3 sounds intrigueing, i'm tempted to pick up Lost season 1 to see if i like it....one of those shows where initially i didnt watch it as i was doing other stuff (clanned in CSS i think..lol) and never bothered since, but for some reason it feels like time to give it a chance...heh...specially as i can buy a box set and watch it all at once...lol (did that with BSG S1 and 2, much more fun not having to wait a week for the next episode...heh)

If you like those, then watch Rescue Me - starting a new series on Tuesday, 28th November on Sky One HD!!

Re: Standoff - recommended?

Just watche dthe first ep.

T'was ok.

Ron Livingston gave another credible performance(thought he rocked big style in Band Of Brothers). I think Michael Cudlitz is getting type cast

I felt that the women let it down though. I normally like Gina Torres but maybe it was because she had so little to do that she seemed wrong. Rosemarie DeWitt(had to IMDb her name) reminded me of a brunette Kathryn Morris, from Cold Case, who really gets on my paps.

yeah, it's the series about the New York firefighters. Very, very good and now in HD

I've been watching Dom Joly too. The first one wasn't in Russia, there was one before that in the Deep South of the USA speaking to the 'moonshiners' - some of that stuff could take the paint off your car! If you see it repeated, watch it, worth it for when Dom spits some moonshine out on to the fire!

Re: Standoff - recommended?

I let this one slip through the cracks even though the trailer did look very good. I'm currently finding it hard to find time to watch everything I'm recording, my DVD rentals and actually getting through my own DVDs. If it doesn't it cancelled I'll catch a re run.

It's one of the best IMO.

The content, acting, presentation puts LOST to shame. Denis Leary is fantastic - can't wait to see what happens next Tuesday.

Oh no! Just had a look on my planner and you're right - it's not there.

This month's Sky magazine (page 16) is advertising it as starting on Tuesdays from the 28th at 10pm on SkyOne and SkyOneHD.

let it be on ...........

Re: Standoff - recommended?

There's no way I could watch Rescue Me weekly, I normally watch a series in a couple of days.

Some shows I can watch weekly, CSI, Cold Case etc but some shows deserve marathon viewing.

Plus the adverts.
I kept the last four episdoes of 24 season five on my planner in HD so i could watch when I got to the end of the DVD set, the adverts spoilt it, takes me right out of the experience.

I disagree with that. I loved watching the first two series of Rescue Me. Not live but I would Sky+ and watch each Friday evening - compelling viewing and much, much better than watching them one after the other.

Apologies for not being crystal clear in my response. I did it with Lost series 2 which I had on downloaded DVD and in my opinion, watching the episodes one at a time is much better.

Hope that explains.
