Yes it's was welcome news when it was announced in February

Pretty expensive mini-series for SKY1 made in association with RHI.
Some pics on Paul Kidbys website.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Ian Richardson has got his work cut out, replacing Christopher Lee as the voice of Death.

Got high hopes for this.

With the success of a certain Mr Potter, I suspect we may see more of the lad Pratchetts work on screen.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Quite a few official video clips (Making of, interviews etc) have been posted to the Brightcove portal, some good stuff there but I assume most of them are taken from the Hogfather special this sunday.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Anybody watch this last night

Not too bad imo not very familiar with pratchetts books (boo hiss i hear!! (a bit of panto for xmas thrown in!)). Bit weird and creepy at times.
How reflective of the books and characters does this programme portray??
Kids liked it

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Quite faithful if memory serves (read hogfather a while ago) and entertaining, will certainly be watching the conclusion.

My gripe: first hour or so all dialog seemed to drag. Got a lot better when Albert was introduced.

Wasn't too bad, but I didn't really find it funny, which I was expecting. Not read the book or many of his other books, but I remember a lot more humour in the ones that I did read.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

I thought it was really good and very faithful to the book and visually stunning but god, Marc Warren (who played Teatime) what was he doing with that voice?!? At first I thought he was playing the baddie in the style of Michael jackson but in the interviews after he admitted doing it in the style of Jonny Depps Willy Wonka.

It jarred on me the entire time.

David Jason, though, more than made up for it.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

i enjoyed it, but only in a general way....given the clips they showed i was expecting a little more from it.......teatime definitely needed to use a different voice, that was a rather crap decision.....david jason i think is a bit more capable than the role they gave him and so i felt a little disappointed, he has some good lines which he delivers well, but its nothing amazing. Death rocks!...lol. Robinson wasnt bad either.

hopefully tonights will pick up a bit in various ways, altho they seemed to show most of it as a trailer at the end of last nights

anyhow, i'm off to cook some food and watch CON:LW&W, then watch Hogfather part 2 once its been sky+'d a bit to get rid of adverts..lol

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Really enjoyed last nights episode, glad i came on the forum i thought the next episode was next sunday!
read quite a lot of terry pratchetts work in my youth and i think it is a faithful adaption of the book.
Pratchetts humour is rather quirky(deadpan springs to mind) and unless you know the books some of the jokes might go over your head.
Lets hope this a start of something and they adapt some more of his works( there were some animated features a while back), especially the nightwatch, whom i think are hilarious.

Enjoyed the second half more than the first, think it did the job well. Anyone notice the little egg timer pop out of the hex machine when asked a question? Nice attention to detail.

Superb acting skills shown by Terry at the end too

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Got bored during the first half, and turned it off. The effects were really bad..

Dell Boy's ears were bugging me...They were the wrong colour, flat, and you could see where they were fitted to his ears...
And the skeletons mouth didn't move..

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Very disappointed in this. Not being a reader of the books (yet) I didn't know what to expect tbh, but with the hype Sky were giving it I was expecting big things. In the end I thought it was a little too advanced for kids, and more than a little too silly for adults. It was quite dull in places too - I found myself reading the post mid-way through the second episode as the wizards (who I'm sure were intended to be a witty parody of something) muttered and hummed their way through. Death was very good though, and David Jason did what little he had to do, to his usual standard.
I'm hoping it's a bit like HHGTTG - a terrible, limited, film based on really good books.

Also, the voice used by ...... Teatime was really very annoying by the time it came to the ...... end. A little variation would have been a very ...... good ...... thing.

Kind of wish I'd watched the trailers at the end of the first episode now, and saved those 2 hours of my life last night.

Turned off after an hour, got fed up with it, way TOO SLLOOOWWW. No amount of HD excellence can make up for a dull, boring film

Also, Marc Warren's 'Depp/Wonka' impersonation irritated me more than the original

His later books are nowhere near as funny as the first few, and he has admitted that if he rewrote the books now they'd be better written but far less funny. I think the Hogfather (haven't read it since the hardback came out) was one of the least funny ones of recent times IMO.

Marc Warren should have come up with his own voice for Teatime rather than doing a poor Willy Wonker impression.

The voice of death just wasn't right for me, nowhere near enough oomph to it, but I guess it would never be enough for me. Oh, and if I remember correctly Death doesn't move his mouth in the books either.

Yeah Pratchett's writing has moved on into darker and more satirical stories, much more enjoyable than his early work probably becuase I've grown older as I've read them
Hogfather is far from my favourite and only got it off the bookshelf for the second time because of this adaptation.

Saw that - did you see the anthill inside logo (parody of intel inside for the slow)

Have to admit it was not to wonderful - but I suppose after reading 30 odd books you get your own idea of how the characters should be. (and there was no Librarian!!!!)

Personally thought David Jason was terrible - Albert is supposed to be a right curmudgeon - Jason just came over as smug.

I actually liked Teatime. The only other character that that was well played was Lord Downey. All the voiced characters were terible (The Raven, the auditors, even Death was only made just bearable because it was Ian Richardson) And where on earth did they dig up those fossils who played the wizards, I know they are supposed to be old but come on!!!

The second half was certainly better than the first but I dont think Pratchetts humour translates very well to the television screen.

They were supposed to be fake ears, as Albert (Del boy's character) was pretending to be an elf.

Always pictured a Wilfrid Brambell (Steptoe) like in that role, Albert was a nasty piece of work with just a little soft spot for Death and took a joy in others problems.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

Albert was supposed to be the most powerful wizard ever who feared death and found a way of escaping it. He now lives with Death in the other world as Deaths butler. Nothing like David Jason.

I thought Teatime was a bit like Malcolm McDowell.

If you read through the message boards here you can see postings from the director. He says Joss Ackland was awful to work with.

Same here, Steptoe would have been ideal.

Re: Hogfather Film On Sky One At Xmas

I've never read any of the books so was able to watch this as it was without any preconceived notions.

I liked it all except for three things in increasing order of annoyance.

1) At four hours it was probably too long.

2) I'm glad that I'm not the only one that found Marc Warren's voice annoying.

3) Rather than watch it live complete with 10 advert breaks I chose to record it and ended up with a very annoying Sky multi start logo in the top right hand corner all the way through. This of course was in addition to the Sky One logo in the top left corner
