ITV film adverts - which muppets edits em?

I was watching X2 lastnight, had it on whilst decorating and remebered why i never watch a film on ITV. I understand they need to put adverts in but anyone with eyes can tell when is a good place to put them, ie at the end of a scene, not halfway through a conversation. Does anyone actually go through the film or do they only look at the time and cut it there?
You cannot tell me that someone takes any kind of care in it.

I remember Channel 5 saying they did. They waited till the end of the long beach sequence on 'Saving Private Ryan' before coming in with the first adverts.

Ad breaks are the least of ITV's crimes when showing films. Adverts pay for them to be show on the channel, so their existence is justified (aside from their placement). The news being on slap-bang in the middle of a film is a great annoyance, and is unnecessary.

The big, major gripe I have, however, is ITV's tendency to edit films to fit them into a two-hour slot, or whatever. Sometime's it's not too obvious, but sometimes it really irks me.

UKTV Gold don't even wait for a fade, and just cut to adverts anywhere.

Channel 5 cut to adverts in the middle of a conversation in Columbo last week... then they rewound it, and started 30 seconds earlier when it came back on.

Lost on Channel 4 would have a fade, but they would ignore it, and wait a bit longer... then cut to adverts. Because I pause adverts out of my recordings, I pressed pause by mistake a few times during the fade.

Could that be to do with different regulations on how many adverts can be shown in an hour? You can often tell in US programmes where the original advert breaks were.

Could be that...on Channel 4 they would often have a break 2 minutes into the program, just after they showed what was on in the previous episode.

The trouble with ITV is that as part of their licencing agreement they have to have a regular news programme at 10.00pm, at least I think they do, maybe someone else can confirm this, what really grates though is that not only do you have the national news, then regional news, then regional weather & then national weather & then finally a recap totalling nearly 45 minutes it can take up to nearly 3 hours to watch a 90 minute movie

regards

Gary

No.. they got out of that situation, and can show the news anytime, but they tried it, and then went back to their old time again. So most people must prefer it this way.

Its 10.30 I think (seeing I hardly watch ITV these days).

They got permission to have one or 2 nights of the week when they could have the news on a lot later but even then they would not choose the nights wisely and would still stick it in the middle of a blockbuster film. So now they can show a film for all but the last 20 minutes and have you waiting til 11.10 and have the film inc credits finish at 11.30pm.

What irks me is that the BBC had a 9pm news slot which they could start a film at 9.30 and show it un interrupted but they moved there news to 10pm and now split films in two.

Its as though they don’t mind ruining the enjoyment of a film for you because they think they have a captive audience to watch the news (which some people don’t want to watch).

Re: ITV film adverts - which muppets edits em?

Not that I'd actually be bothered to watch a film on ITV,(here in N.Ireland, we get UTV, which has pretty much the same programming, but has daft local voiceovers, etc),but you'd think that in the 21ST CENTURY, the supposed age of flying cars, and living on the moon, we could get a naff channel to show its ads AFTER the film, like Sky do. I also can't wrap my head around the news still interrupting films, and it's to please the oldies, isn't it? If I ran this country, I tells ya...
