Rollerball?

I have just seen Rollerball advertised, is this a remake of the James Caan?

It is indeed a remake. What did you think of the trailer. In my opinion, it looks awful.....

Cool

Yes I though myself it was terrible, Rollerball is sort of a mini classic, I cannot believe they remade it. I for one will not be going to see it, and cannot see anybody else who has seen the original will.

They'll remake anything - you only have to look at Get Carter to see that. One of the few remakes that I enjoyed in recent times was The Thomas Crown Affair - just a pity it starred Pierce Brosnan .

All fears are justified - the remake is appalling. And pointless.

John McTiernan used to know how to direct a film.

I remember being gripped by this - the original - film years back with the dodgy corporate stuff and games. The new one, as stated above, fills me with dread. I saw LL CoolJ on a chat show plugging it months back and even the US suckup audience had difficulty whooping the clip. It tanked in the US. Yet another synical rehash by, ironicly, corporate film America. This will no doubt be a film that'll catch people out in a moment of weakness in the future on late night tv...

You just know the film will be poor when the characters don 'shiny' armour in favour of the original film's kit. Almost 'made for TV' looks.

Cool

From the reviews I have read of this film, I think you would be better off not seeing the film, and putting the money towards the just released DVD of the original.

Cool

I was behind a couple in the queue for tickets at the cinema today, the assistant ask the guy which film, the guy turns to his woman, she says Rollerball, in the background on a screen The Time Machine is playing, After he books for Rollerball he ask the assistant if it is any good, she said she hadn’t seen it. I felt like saying if you like Rollerball you should like it.

I saw the new version advertised cheaply from future, so like a muppet I bought it, and watched it at the weekend. This is definately one remake to many, as Total Film said "the action seqeunces are about as exciting as Starlight Express" .
I don't know what has happened to John Mctiernan, he started with Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October, and then follows it up with 13th Warrior and this sh!te.
I've read that Hollywood is remaking the Itallian Job God knows what mess they will make of that!!!

Personally I've felt it was downhill all the way after Predator, with each film getting progressively worse than the last.

Its the Orson Welles syndrome, when you start at the top, then the only way is down.
