I sure am. Many say the series has deteriorated over the years, getting unfunnier. Well I still love it and so do the kids. Although my wife has never warmed to it (she says, but we still hear the odd chuckle amongst the tuts of complaint when it's on). I'll get episode one on Monday from Bittorrent.

Would agree that some shows over recent series are not great, but you have to give the writers a break.

They have written some unbelieveable material over the years, and created some of the best characters ever on TV. They are bound to hit the odd bum note every now and again.

But you can't deny that they have created the funniest cartoon EVER. Indeed one of the funniest TV programs EVER.

When I think of some of the lines in it, especially from Homer himself, you know the writers are so good!!

S18 ! bloody hell they're milking that one dry! I haven't regularly watched in 6-7 years when i got bored of it. I watch the occasional episode while eating but beyond the odd chuckle its very tame now. Thank god for Family Guy that knows how to make you roll on the floor laughing...almost literally.

Im looking forward to the film! I guess they might be focusing on that which is why the series might be suffering a bit.
I still think the first 5 or 6 seasons were the best, but there have been a few decent eps in the last few seasons too.

Re: Season 18 of The Simpsons begins on Sunday in the US - Are you looking forward to it?

Not in the slightest.

Sky One has over played them far too much now & it's just plain boring...granted I still look out for my fave episodes but I'm just so bored of the same old thing that I wont be watching them.

I think if Sky didnt insist on showing you 2 hours worth more or less EVERY night then I would still be a fan but its just got to the point of being totally annoying now.

I lost track ages ago when the new episodes were on and never really bothered after that. I'll watch the odd repeat once in a while and on the very odd occasion it's one I've not seen before.

Re: Season 18 of The Simpsons begins on Sunday in the US - Are you looking forward to

The Simpsons is clearly suffering - there's too much focus on getting in as many guest stars as possible these days, with the plot suffering as a result - it used to be about the gags, not the celebs. And there are too many injokes and metareferences - they make it sound smug for it's own good. Family Guy is more hit and miss but when it hits, it really hits - it's much much edgier than the Simpsons these days

The simspons seems to be more about the music nowadays, they crowbar a daft song in each week, or am I just seeing the same few episodes on a repeat loop

Re: Season 18 of The Simpsons begins on Sunday in the US - Are you looking forward to it?

I stopped watching it religiously after Season 5 or thereabouts (indeed I have only bought the first 4 on dvd). It used to be hilarious, but I guess I just got bored of it.
I still put the dvds on now and again, for some of the episodes were truly classic.
Still, it hasn't run on for 18 seasons without pleasing alot of folk, so I guess I'm well in the minority.

Maybe the fact I got older is something to do with it lol

Still loving the show and judging from the SKY1 ratings so do many more
However since I have no real interest in watching repeats (unless on DVD) and the scheduling makes it difficult to spot new episodes (without TIVO or something like digiguide) then I'll just download them.

Re: Season 18 of The Simpsons begins on Sunday in the US - Are you looking forward to it?

along the same grounds as Soundwave Sky One show it way too many times per day. its totally stupid. and they seem to use every excuse in the book to air even more episodes than the usually daily 2 hours, Has some special season called the Simpson's Alphabet... B is for Beer show 4 episodes where homer drinks beer...

Re: Season 18 of The Simpsons begins on Sunday in the US - Are you looking forward to it?

Having watched every single episode ever made, I still think The Simpsons is a great show though obviously it doesn't currently match up to some of the early seasons. Having said that, there are occasionally a few seriously great episodes mixed in with the average ones.

On the Family Guy/American Dad front, does anybody else here prefer American Dad to the newer Family Guy episodes? I bought Season Four of Family Guy and whilst there are many hilarious moments I feel it has already hit its peak. The first season of American Dad was, however, consistently inventive and looks as though it'll have enough drive to last another few seasons.

S18E02 was pretty good, enjoyed the drumming. But the show is gettin saturated with guest stars (they had the white stripes on)

Agree about the drumming.

I loved the first season, perhaps one of the best programmes I have watched with no prior knowledge of what it was about.

S10E03 was brilliant! Loved the star wars theme, Homer on the rollcoaster was just like old times. Simpsons has still got it.

Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't get the joke any more.

I know it's the point, but I simply can't overcome the bizarreness of the characters not having aged a day in (how many?) years.
