There is a big following here for the show here on the forum, but no one I know (age: >20) in person actually watches it. So waht is it about and is it good?

ash, the series are awesome.

I'm 35 now, and have the five seasons on dvd, and they are as addictive as anything I've seen.

It is basically about Tony Soprano who is a mob boss, and his families (both mob and personal). It delves a fair bit into his personal life, but dont let that put you off, as the cast are all awesome.

Start with season 1, and see how you go, as I believe it can be picked up pretty cheap. I got all mine from cdwow (R4).

It is ****in excellent mate. One of my if not my favourite tv show. Im 25 by the way but have been watching it since it first came on tv.

The current series 6 is one of the best just a shame its the last. However I have heard that they are bringing out another 8 episodes to follow on from the current series 6 sometime next year.

I saw a couple of episodes late at night on Ch4 and couldn't get enough. Great great program, plan on buying the complete boxset when it comes to that.

It's like a TV show version of Goodfellas and many other mob films. Can feel a bit slow at times imo but it's very good.

It's been compulsive watching for everyone I know >20 yoa since series one. And I still get younger family and friends that have grown up since the series started asking to borrow my dvd boxsets. The characters are old school/new school and as a result, there is a lot of head-clashing, often with hilarious and shocking results.

It may take a bit of time to get into it , but when you do , it becomes obsessive.

Just go start watching it - you'll not regret it.

It is easily, imho, one of the best TV series ever. It has everything - great stories, acting, cast, writing, humour, everything.

Was a really clever idea in the 1st place to show a mob boss having normal, everyday problems and issues, including panic attacks!!

This show, along with the likes of Band of Brothers, West Wing etc have shown over the last decade that the best writers, directors and acters etc are now in television and not in cinema.

I was about to post a similar thread soon. I've never seen one episode but it seems to be highly thought of. It'd be nice if there was cheap dvd boxsets around to take advantage of.

West Wing is also another one where I have never seen an episode - too many shows, not enough time…

Just to back up what has already been said, it's the best TV drama ever. Simple as that. If you haven't seen it, step away from the computer, go down the shops, buy it, come home, watch immediately.

I watched the first couple of episodes of season 6 a few days ago. It was the first new Sopranos I had seen in a couple of years and totally reminded me what we had been missing. Absolutely superb.

Yes, The Wire is second only to The Sopranos. I thought maybe it was even better till I got my fresh kick of Tony and co this week. That reminded me of who's the real boss

It's different to 24, it really good though, can take time to get into it but well worth it.

I love 24 as much as the next man, but Sopranos is a different beast. 24 is pure adrenaline, whereas Sopranos is more paced.

Honestly, I would recommend getting Season 1, and if you dont like it, then e-bay it, or sell it on here. but in all honesty, it hasn't won all the awards and praise for no reason.

Best character for me in it is definitely Christoper (played by Michael Imperioli) who you may recognise as Spider in Goodfellas (the kid who got his foot shot off by Joe Pesci). He is brilliant in the Sopranos.

Whats the difference between the region 2 and 4 versions to the normal region 2?

For £17 each there must be a big difference

think you'll find none....region 4 and 2 are basically the same format i think?
region 4 being aussie should still paly on a region 2 player that has'nt been hacked.

Started wathcing, watched first two eps of Season 1.
Thoughts... well the way it is filmed is weird, the timescale is hard to tell.

Also the talk about Laser Disc, and DVD is quite funny. They talk about how good the DVD is compared to Laser Disc etc....

Channel 4 did one of their list programs at the weekend. This time the top 50 TV dramas of all time. The Sopranos was voted the number 1
