StarTrek on scFichannel vs DVDs

ive been watching for 40th yr celebration on sci fi and quiteenjoying the original moves (immore of a next gen and deep space nine man).

Anyway i was suprised at how appauling the quality was, especially of the ocmposite effects hsots.

My question ifare the special editions of 2,3,4 and 6 better than the aired TV versions? cause if not i htink i might wait for special special editions.

Second thing, with the original series being redone with new CGI how likely do u think it is that they will redo the effects shots on these fims ?

p.s. technically this is FILM question butit talks about films being broadcast on Tv so god knows where it should have gone.

Re: StarTrek on scFichannel vs DVDs

This is a hard question to answer because without seeing the TV broadcasts in question there is no way to compare them but seeing as the Special Edition DVD releases have been cleaned up and in the cases of 2 and 6 have had new footage added I would assume they will be of better quality than the versions they have been showing on TV which they have probaley had hanging around for years.

As for re-doing the effects, I guess its possible as they re-did certain shots in TMP in CGI but on the whole I think the model shots and effects hold up pretty well, certainly much better than the effects in TOS.

Re: StarTrek on scFichannel vs DVDs

Picture quality is nearly always very poor on the SciFi channel and almost just as bad, nearly everything is cropped down to 4:3. The DVDs should be very much better than what SciFi broadcast. I rarely watch broadcast movies as DVD quality is so much better and you get the full widescreen picture without large parts cropped off. I did see a bit of one of the Star Trek movies. It was 4:3 and pretty poor quality. I was not impressed.
