Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

Yes, great show

btw the R1 Season 1 boxset is in fact non-region specific R0, so will play on all DVD players and PCs/Macs

EDIT... I do believe this is also true for the Season 2 boxset, as tested by William Gallagher for his UK DVD Review podcast

It's a bit like Buffy in that any description will not do it justice. Watch it and you'll be hooked.

I think this is the case for all of Warner's TV shows on DVD. I know the American sets of the OC and One Tree Hill also play on a european DVD player.

Thought Veronica Mars season 1 was great, just about to start watching the second one.

Same here. Just watched the corking last episode of Season 1 last night. Damn fine episode. In fact the whole first series has been superb.

I am totally hooked to it now. For those not yet convinced, get rid of any pre conceptions that contain the words 'teen high school drama' and you will love it. It is not anything remotely like the dross of the OC etc. Also quite an adult programme I think, much more so than Buffy was (except for the Buffy/Spike sex from the later seasons). Which is why it's shown at 9pm in the US.

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

....

Just watched the first 2 seasons after sooo long!
I'm hooked on it, watched them back to back.

It's great, not AMAZING though, but Kristen Bell is

Shame to see its been cancelled for Season 4.

Anyway, a spoiler question for those that have watched a few episodes of Season 3, nothing big though, a minor detail.

What happened to V.Mars' Stanford offer? She said she never wanted to go Herst, but she ends up there.....?

From what I remember didnt Her mother steal the scholarship money that she won so she didnt have the funds to go to stanford and therefore ended up going to Hearst instead

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

Yeah, it's a damn shame it was cancelled. But the rest of Season 3 is pretty dire, so it was no surprise.

Anyway, in answer to your question:

If you recall in the episode where the jury gave their verdict on Aaron Eccles (sp?) she was sitting her final important exam, got a text message to say the verdict was in and skipped out halfway through.

I can only imagine she was allowed to resit it later, but by doing this must have missed out on Stanford.

If you also recall the S1 episode were VM sat on a jury, their was a women at the end who said she worked at Hearst and would happily give VM a recommendation. I can only assume somehow VM used this to get into Hearst.

It wasn't a question about money really as Keith got a load of money off Charisma Carpenters character (whose name I forget)

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

I recently finished watching season 2 on DVD. I enjoyed it, though not as much as Buffy. There were only three characters who really interested me: Veronica, Keith and Logan. They seemed to get all the best lines.

By the way, here's one bit of dialogue from season 2 that really tickled me (perhaps because it was one of the few cultural references that I got!):
Veronica: All I'm saying is, I followed him into the cigar shop, he bought some cigars, and he left.
Logan: Didn't your dad say the cigar store is a front for drug dealers, I mean, that's gotta be something.
Veronica: Or not. Sometimes a cigar store is just a cigar store.

Thanks for pointing that out. Now I can lend the DVDs to friends without multi-region players.

Thanks, what a shame. Stanford is a great uni

And krish, I've been too busy to watch Heroes! I've just watched V. Mars Season 1 and 2 back-to-back over like 2 weeks. Addicitive.

Yeah I might like that type, but this one is special!!! And she is young

Season 3, they changed the intro, kinda re-mix and it sounds cool.

Sad to see it ditched though

Yeah, the remix is good. But the episodes are not. Episode 9 is superb though, but the rest are just average. Too many new characters you couldn't care less about and far too little of the regular characters. Not even sure why half of them were in the main credits as they were missing from most of the episodes, or just appeared for like a minute.

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

Watched the rest of S2 over the last week, my thoughts are yeah it is good but it was weaker than S1.

Logan Echolls still gets all the best lines a la "Kendall needs Domestic Staff just to make cereal!"

Will wait till S3 hits sub $25 on Amazon me thinks.

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

Well finished season 3.....

Spoilers below

Well it was definately differnt then S1 and S2. It was, say worse, but still enjoyable. The finale is really sad!!! Aww... I'm getting emotional! How Logan still loved V. Mars, and how he couldn't control his anger and beat the dudes up! And how Keith Mars messed up the DVR etc. I really wish they did a Season 4.... just to see what she did. Some episodes were really good, esp. the finale. Apaarently they mare making a V. Mars comic now.... no way as good as TV but I might try to have a look.

Anyone else have views on season 3?

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

Have to agree, S3 wasn't anywhere near as good as the previous 2 and still too many loose ends.

Definitely worth watching for Kristen Bell - both Veronica and Logan has the best lines on the show!

Re: Veronica Mars - Any good?

Just wrapped up S3 the other night, I did enjoy it not as much as S1 and S2 but still good.

Now did it just end with Jake Kane after Keith? (Veronica reads it on the paper)

If so that is mince, I wanted that wrapped up.

Didn't like the look of the propsed 4th season and I am actually glad it stopped however it would have been good with V as PI in Neptune and more non school type cases.

Overall though a very good show, I'll enjoy wacthing that again.
