What TV shows to add to my collection?

Am looking for advice on must have TV shows.

Having read other posts here I have bought many shows which I would have not considered previously which I have thoroughly enjoyed e.g The Shield.

My current collection includes:

Sopranos
24
Dawsons Creek
Nip Tuck
The Shield
The Wire
Lost
Roswell
Alias
Dark Angel
One Tree Hill
Las Vegas

Am thinking of getting Deadwood
Will get prison break when it becomes cheaper.

Not sure whether to get Smallville and The West Wing.

Anything else you folks would consider a must have?

Re: What TV shows to add to my collection?

If you like scifi then something like Space: above and beyond might be ok - a lot of people alos recommend Firefly.

Also I quite like my Water Margin but I guess it's a bit of an aquired taste.

Myself personnaly may go for Brisco County Jr next (maybe some tinted specs involved) and see if it's how | remember it.

Guess it really depends on what type of show your into ...

Re: What TV shows to add to my collection?

I always liked The Pretender (a bit corny and schmaltzy stroylines in places but there's always Miss Parker's ongoing leather fetish to compensate ).

Recently I got into Numb3rs also - although season 2 is much better than season 1 IMHO.

Re: What TV shows to add to my collection?

House MD - oh yes indeedy, superb.

If you like the sherlock holmes structure then also consider

Monk

and

CSI Criminal Intent.

If you have read the Holmes novels then Monk has 'added value' with loads of references. Bloody good show as well IMV. Muder puzzle plus funny plus sad all wrapped up with aforesaid references and a lead actor who knows his business.
Beeb showed them at some odd times a while back which led me to get the first three R1 box sets.

Re: What TV shows to add to my collection?

The West Wing is simply brilliant

Very addictive though and you end up having to buy all 7 seasons (over 7,000 hours!!)

Make sure you start with season 1 and go from there.

Seasons 1-4 are the best of the lot imo -engrossing TV

Think you may have got your maths wrong there!!

But agree that it is a great show. Very well written compared to a lot of rubbish out there.

Re: What TV shows to add to my collection?

Xena: Warrior Princess.

Takes a while to get into as week on week you're not sure if it's drama, camp comedy or something else (though I think that actually one of the series' plus points, myself). Innovative stuff as it even included two full musical episodes where the cast all burst into song, and was way before Buffy did something similar. And any programme where the lead is a babe in a skimpy leather outfit can't possibly be bad. Even managed to get an episode banned for a while. Lots of punch-ups and action adventure and clever story telling. Too easily dismissed by the great British public as it was always treated by the stations that aired it as kid's programme and censored accordingly, but the DVDs (especially the R1 version) are largely intact so all the beheadings, limb removals, and odd deity molestations are still there. Worth a try out I'd suggest.

The only thing to look out for is the UK R2 DVD set of season one in not in the correct running order as the bozo who did the authoring didn't put a zero in front of the episodes so you get 1, 11, 12, 13 etc. And Universal have never seen fit to re-issue it in the correct order. Getting the R1 sets are actually preferable because not only are they in the right order, and completely uncensored, but they even have many more extras that the UK R2 sets simply don't have.

Regards

Mark

West Wing is superb - well worth a watch. There is a lot of them and you have to keep concentrating. Very addictive.
Battlestar Galactica - best SciFi programme in years. Big-budget special effects laden. Seems like you are watching a movie.
Deadwood - just getting into it but is pretty darn good.
Spaced - one of the funniest comedies to grace our screens IMO.

IIRC S3 Ep1 airs today in the states.

Plenty of House sites out there to give you clues before airing and write ups afterwards. But that would kinda spoil it for when it arrives in the UK.

Re: What TV shows to add to my collection?

Seeing as no-one has mentioned them i'd go with Desperate Housewives and Bones, the latter is a drama about a forensic anthropologist who teams up with an FBI Agent (David Boreanz) to solve murders from the victims bones.

It's got a healthy dose of humour throughout which makes it one of my essential series atm. The DVD of the first season is out next month so go rent it and give it a chance.

Definitely Deadwood and West Wing, both superb. Especially the earlier seasons of West Wing.

Just started on season 1 of Medium tonight, which I'm really enjoying. Go for R1 for the extras and surprisingly enough it's Dolby Digital EX too.
