Thumbs up "Five's" TV Channel Spin-Offs - New Details!

Hi,

With thanks to Digital Spy:

Five's two new digital channels will launch in October, the broadcaster confirmed today. First off the block will be "Five US" - a channel dedicated to showing US fare such as "CSI" and new acquisitions "Shark" and "Vanished" - launching on Sunday 15th October 2006!

Female-skewing lifestyle channel Five Life will then follow, on Monday 16th October.

Programmes in the "Five Life" schedule include Aussie drama "Life My Way", popular US talker "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and spinoff series "Supermodel Extra". The channel will also feature an expanded Milkshake! strand for preschoolers and premiere episodes of "Home & Away" ahead of Five.

Five US will broadcast daily between 4pm and 1am, while Five Life will air between 6am and 11pm.

Picture quality question:
Currently Channel 5 has one of the best SD picture qualities around. With the new channels starting, are they going to share bandwidth, leading to a drop in PQ?

I thought that Five were taking back two channels currently utilised by TopUp TV.

Will these channels appear on Freeview, Sky or Telewest first?

And Telewest? I remember the ITV4 fiasco when they took ages to get that

Exclamation Re: "Five's" TV Channel Spin-Offs - New Details!

HI,

No official confirmation about which TV formats (e.g. Sky, cable, Freeview, et al) will get the new channels when they launch, or which formats will be kept waiting. Bear in mind the whole problem that ITV4 and More4 both had upon there initial launches.

In my opinion, it will be in Five's best interests to get it on Sky and Freeview, from day one, and then cable companies as soon as possible thereafter.
