Re: Spooks Series 5 - BBC1, Monday 18th September

cant wait for this. I never watched it before, but due to the great word of mouth (and cheap internet prices) I bought Seasons 1-3.
I watched them solidly and think it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Order in for Season 4, and this will be watched as soon as received in preperation for Season 5.

I felt it got a bit like rats leaving a sinking ship with series 3, as each of the three main characters departed. But series 4, which was make or break for the show's new cast, I felt was much much better and back to the high standards of series 1 and 2, so I didn't really miss Tom, Zoe and Danny. Harry and Ruth are great characters too.

Love this series. I've had all the DVDs since their respective release days, but never got around to watching them yet

Time for a Spooks marathon, in preperation for the new series

I've enjoyed all the series of this so far. I prefer the new guy to Tom now. But miss Zoe and Danny. Looking forward to this new series, hopefully they won't kill anyone else off!

Harry Pierce is actually my favourite character; hope Peter Firth isn't leaving the show anytime soon. Harry and the tech guys (Colin and Malcolm) are the only original series characters left.

Yippee!

Great show. I quite like the way that the characters have disappeared. I miss them and it did take a while to get use to them when they did leave, but the nature of the business has it's costs.

So can anyone see if this is going to appear on BBC HD? I assume like most stuff nowadays that it's filmed using HD cameras, so would be good to see it on there.

I always felt this was a poor man's 24, and stopped watching after that stupidly confusing one where tom walked into the sea.

Cool Re: Spooks Series 5 - BBC1, Monday 18th September (with spoilers in comments).

The series got to be down hill from here, what a cracking opening episode, it got to be the best episode of the entire series. If the rest are half as good this will have been twices as good as them joking apart they will be good, looking forward to the rest of the series. And dare I say it if they are all up to this standard better than 24.

Re: Spooks Series 5 - BBC1, Monday 18th September (with spoilers in comments).

Has to be favourite show of the moment.

Opening 2 episodes and absolute cracker.

I love the way their stories are soooooo close to the current political scene. Rowan the PMs son. Genius.
Spoiler:

And talk about people getting bumped off quick. The only show on TV that doesn't give a toss about its lead characters and audience sympathies. Brillian idea cos you never know who's going to get it next. Ratchets the tension up no end. And the scene on the bus. You just knew smething was going to happen. But what? Classy stuff.

24 will take some beating, but if they keep the standards this high you never know. Although, while I love 24, for me though Spooks has always seemed more believable as I could imagine some of the events happening, whereas 24 just seems a bit OTT, maybe its the UK perspective I don't know.

As much as i like spooks, but sometimes it's too political, and can get confusing. But still a great series. SPOILER What happened to Colin was rather unpleasant.

24 just tops it for me for its cliff hangers.

Re: Spooks Series 5 - BBC1, Monday 18th September (with spoilers in comments).

I love Spooks and 24
- BUT they're both very different; and their differences are also their strengths

With Spooks it takes about seven months to make 10 episodes
- real dedication, select writers and directors, and time is taken to get it just right; standalone stories with an arc or two perhaps running over the whole season; retains its Britishness with attention to detail regarding the intelligence services, civil service and government AND without looking like a poor relative of 24; but actually making us look more intelligent and less trigger-happy; its also our most successful TV export of the last 10 years

with 24 it takes around the same amount of time to make err.. 24 episodes
- they're in fact writing the show as they go along, especially the recent season 5 when with the last few episodes they didn't have the final cut ready until a day or two before airing; but that adrenalin charged style of making the show is what gives it its distinctive (and of course far fetched) character; and you sit back and enjoy the ride

Re: Spooks Series 5 - BBC1, Monday 18th September (with spoilers in comments).

Tonights episode 3 (BBC3) was another good episode... not quite as good as the opening 2-parter... (spoilers) Ros Myers is definitely one nasty bitch; wouldn't be suprised if her actions lead to the death of a colleague or two this series

Btw, I just noticed on this press release...

Re: Spooks Series 5 - BBC1, Monday 18th September (with spoilers in comments).

Watch the first two episodes back to back last night and have to say the quality is just as good as the past seasons. The next episode will probably be a bit of a come down after all that.

With the way anything can happen with any of the characters even small bit parts makes you wonder....

I was thinking the nanny got shown a bit more than I expected so is there going to be more of an story there. First I though she might of been a spy from the other side.

saw both eps last night, cracking opener that had me gripped for 2 hrs. the best eps yet imo and Tom has been exceptionally well replaced by Adam even surpassed imho.

as for 24 it's just ludicrous I can't believe its so well loved when at best its mediocre fare. Give me Spooks or Sleeper Cell anyday over 24.
