Well I'M looking forward to it!
Love it or loath it, everyone seemed to have an opinion about Independence Day.
Time to dust down yer voiceboxes and get ready for another load of pointless shouting at eachother about the merits (or otherwise) of this undeniable blockbuster.

I liked the original. In terms of classic cinema it had very little going for it and was made as an American feelgood film, a role in which it largely succeeded.
You are correct that there will be a lot of debate and equally correct that most of it will be pointless.
Films like ID4 are not meant to be taken seriously or subject to dissection, they are meant as pure entertainment.
If some people's enjoyment is spoiled by the highly unlikely scenario of Jeff Goldblum saving the world with his Mac laptop then tough on them.
It is equally unlikely that Alien's burst forth from someone's chest but no-one complains about that.

Loved the movie, saw this one at the cinema, then bought the widescreen version on video, then on DVD, it's one of those movies where you can just sit back and enjoy without killing of two many brain cells........can't wait for the sequel.

Not worth the celluloid it's printed on.
Truly, truly dreadful.
Typical American, flag-waving, cringingly cheesy garbage. Expect more like this as the US 'reasserts' itself after last September.
Astonishingly it's almost, but not quite, as bad as Armageddon. Astonishing because ID is handicapped by having Will Smith in it.
I don't mind suspending by disbelief for a film, but I can't be doing with disconnecting my entire brain.

I liked the audio spinoff - essentially the same story but told from the UK point of view. At the end, after a climactic battle involving most of England's armed forces and thousands of men and women, someone remarks, "Well - I suppose the bloody Yanks'll take all the credit." And of course they did...

Well he's not all bad then.
And I don't think he's in a minority on that score either.
BTW, I don't own, nor have I ever owned a CRT projector. And I know NOTHING about them. Just so you don't get any funny ideas.

I think the Will Smith/Jeoff Goldbloom was a deliberate thing. Remember at the time it was made there was a big row about a jewish ambulance service that went to an accident with a jewish bloke and a black kid who died because they would not take him to hospital. It was obvious that it was a political choice that the heros who come to respect each other whould be jewish/black combination.
As for Geoff saving the world with his laptop, aren't all alien computers ibm comatable?
