Try to appreciate the technical aspects of what you are seeing. Some of what I have seen has been excellent technically and when that extends to full programming it should be good. Of course it would be nice to see something more contemporary but I am happy they are at least making progress.

Publishing a listing would be a good start, how much of the stuff is HD and how much is upscaled?

At least they are testing stuff which i have to say, i never for a second thought the cheap ass ITV companies would have any form of HD trail for at least 3 years. Based on their inability to convert to 16:9 like the rest of the world.

I agree. I didn't think ITV would get HD together for the WC, and since the channel wasn't listed until couple of days before the start it wasn't looking too promising. Although all but the live match itself is upscaled I think they've done a good job of trying to keep up with Auntie Beeb. What happens after the WC is another matter. Coronation Street in HD?

I thought the quality of the supposedly HD WC Aus v. Italy broadcast this afternoon was poor. Not a great degree of difference between SD and HD on my Panny set!

As long as the BBC don't do Eastenders. Pauline Fowler in HD on an 88" screen

Thought the France v Italy match was really poor in HD, had to check the channel was actually 118.
Switched to SD to compare and it was absolutely awful, blurred and smudged.

The game between Australia and Italy had a great bit in it.

Was watching the ITV HD channel on my PJ, and after the H/T chat they showed the live feed from the side angle looking onto the pitch as the players were about to kick off for the 2nd half.

Then, suddenly the picture changed from SD to HD. Wow

I've been trying to do this comparison for a while, but you lose something as the box switches from 103 to 118 and back and forget somewhat.

But this was a great example of the improvement.

The advertising boards came to life (even though still 2d ), the grass gained colour and clarity and the whole sharpness improved.

Unfortunately I've deleted the match now as that could have been kept for the comparison to show to the doubters.

Did anyone else notice it ?
