Only a series that confidently declares itself "the most watched show on television" would dream of basing an episode on Akira Kurosawa's classic 1950 film 'Rashomon', where an event is recalled in flashbacks by a series of characters. spoiler Here, the CSI personnel offer their differing recollections of a crime scene at a lavish wedding when the groom's mother, a hotshot mob lawyer, is found dead, tied to the bumper of the wedding car by her own tights. The evidence is piled into Nick's car, which is later stolen, much to the embarrassment of the squad. Thus, on the orders of the divine Gil Grissom, each member must set down his or her recollections of gathering evidence at the party, aided by a DVD of the day taken by the wedding photographer, which reveals the dead woman to be a poisonous drunk with a neat line in wedding toasts. If you know the original film, you'll enjoy the parallels. If not, just bask in a TV drama at the top of its game.
