UKTVGold have been covering some games so at least there's an alternative when the Beeb isn't doing one...

Yeah - I noticed that too. That must be the pay-off with HD cameras - no zoom lens!!!

When I watched a recording of the Sunday evening BBC football highlight show in HD did indeed have the same feeling; that a few of the post England match interviews where out of sync, with the voices a split second in advance of the pictures. Will keep an eye out to see if this is a common occurrence.

Mark Bright

My apologies prvjoker...you are quite right Mark Bright does work for the BBC...
I had to suffer his banal, and utterly obvious statments today..to the point where i decided to listen to five live and watch picture without sound....
Some co-commentators are very good ..ie Andy Gray...Mick Mcarthy...and are not at all annoying...basically because they know what they are talking about..

There is one other Co-Commentator who is on a par with Mr Bright (if not worse ) and thats the guy who does Prem Plus..Brian Marwood.....yet another one who commentates for the blind , states the obvious and also keeps saying " WE TALKED EARLIER" and "We SAID AT THE TOP "...he drives me insane...

Ok Rant Over

As the Brazilians came out on to the pitch last night, Motson said something along the lines of "What can I say? This is the World Cup, this is Brazil and *that* is Ronaldhino". Now that's quality commentary!!!

Yes, I thought that was pretty good. I think adding "Here is some grass, and this is a football they will kick" would have been in order, lol.

Don't forget the other dividend from BBC's promotion of untalented sports personalities, that is Ian Wright.

What have we done to deserve that!

They annoy the hell out of me because they never shout up. When I'm watching a game I don't want constant babble going on. Pointing out soemthing insightful is fine, but leave the rest to the post match program.

The thing that really gets my goat is the apparent denial that all football pundits are in about 'simulation'.

For a start, it's not 'simulation'. It's diving. It's being a pathetic cheating puff!

And secondly, if someone brushes past you, this doesn't send you flying to the ground 10 yards from where you were last standing. If this was really the case, then Liverpool Street station would be a mass of near fatally wounded commuters every day.

It drives me bloody mad when they say things like 'well, he felt the contact and went to ground'. If the contact was not enough to send him off balance, even though he tried to stay on his feet, then it's diving. And that should be a straight red. no questions, no recourse, just off. And if the ref misses it on the pitch, then FIFA should hand out bans retrospectively. But they won't because they're cowards.

They should look at the reactions of players when they really get injured. Roony, Cisse, Smith, when it's really an injury, you don't go rolling over 32 times smacking the 'injured' limb into the ground over and over again!!

Personally, I've started a petition to get rugby made illegal, as it obviously poses an unacceptable risk to all the players. Looking at the way the footballers react to the slightest knock, there must be a serious risk of 50% mortality over the course of 80 minutes of rugby.

Sheesh.

/soap box :D

Here - Here to that !

In my logical mind, the FIFA directive about being more harsh on people doing certian fouls, althouigh may be correct, does encourage people to make a meal of it when lightly touched.

Not to awe-inspiring a performance last night but at least we got it!

Looked lovelly in HD but such a shame that ITV's studio coverage is SD.

Shall we pop across to the Sky forum and let them all know how much we enjoyed the game in HD

Mick McCarthy, is a ****, he sounds like an old Hovis advert as in, it was always better in the old days. I liked the guy as a player even though he played for Celtic but he should shut the censored: up.

Mick Mc

I have to disagree...........

Co\Commentators likw MM and Andy Gray...do talk a lot of sense and dont babble on ........They also tell it like it is.....

Unlike messers Bright and Marwood

Even on the BBC highlights last night Mark Bright was just Soooooo ANNOYING...
Telling me where the player picked up the ball how he turned then shot with his left foot, and how it just skimmed the bar...but if it were him he would have turned the other way and or passed it would have been a goal.....

YEAH RIGHT...............WHAT A T**t

BRIAN......

ps we need to start a petition to get Bright and Marwood transferred to Radio...(preferably in another country )

Jonathan Pearce really winds me up. He gets sooooooo excited about the smallest thing, like a substitution or something. Should have left him on Five!!

Some of the commentary on both channels has been a bit poor, but I will agree Mark Bright does tend to state the obvious a little too much!

If you're watching in HD on a projector then the wide angle camera shots are great. You can see about 15 players at any one time and make out who is who very easily. It gives you a great view of where everybdy is and makes the game much more involving than lots of close-ups.

However, when TeleWest went offline during the England game today and I was forced to switch back to the terrestrial signal on my tv then I did think all the players looked tiny and I was grumpy that I was straining my eyes to see what was going on.

Unhappy Never mind the commentary, feel the HD quality (not)

I thought the quality of the supposedly HD WC Aus v. Italy broadcast this afternoon was poor. Not a great degree of difference between SD and HD on my Panny set!
