Bad Movies You Can't Help But Love

Seeing as how there have been plenty of threads recently about favourite and worst movies, I thought I'd put another spin on it by asking people about those embarrassing films which they know are actually complete c**p, but for some reason they just can't help but love.

This whole thing has been provoked by a recent screening of Resident Evil. Now I went in fearing the very worst (I'm not a big fan of the games, althrough I'll be first in line for the UK release of the Gamecube make-over), and in all honesty it isn't a particularly good film. But for some reason, both myself and my girlfriend really enjoyed it. The acting is lacklustre, the story is absolute guff (but quite close in tone and execution to that of the game series) there are some miserable CGI effects on offer and simply not enough gore considering that it's a zombie film, but somehow none of this seemed to matter to either of us. I really can't defend the film at all apart from with regards to a couple of stylistic flourishes from the director (Paul Anderson), but I really can't wait for the film to come out on DVD so I can watch it again at home.

My other shameful film secret is a love of the Kevin Bacon flick Footloose. Tosh of the very worst kind, but as soon as I hear that theme song it just seems as if everything is suddenly right with the world. Just imagine how excited I was when the BBC recently screened the film in widescreen!

So, come on... what bad movie really does it for you?

"Navy Seals" - saw it in a tiny (about 50 seats) cinema in Bradford and was expecting it to be truely awful. Only saw it because it beat spending more time with my in-laws and it had my wife's favourite actor (Michael Biehn) in.

For some unknown reason I actually quite enjoyed it. It was typical Hollywood jingoistic military carp, but, unlike Armageddon which I utterly hated, I liked it.

There's absolutely nothing bad about Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! That there is one damn fine movie, easily the most impressive aspect of Russ Meyer's wonderful and distinguished career. An assault on the senses with a feminist message to boot. Magnificent!

Most 'Van Damme' films are poor but you just gotta luv some of them (Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Timecop...).

I didn't used to like it but im ashamed to say im starting to take to 'Beverly Hills Cop 3' now. The way I look at it is that it's just taking the **** outta itself. Oh and can anyone spot the cameo appearence by the person who's gonna be on everyone's lips this May?

If you think that was bad watch U.S. Seals (couldn't even use the 'Navy' bit). I borrowed it from my local library on 'Hollywood DVD' for £1.50 (damn good value). It was worth it's money just for the trailers at the start. Three horror films called Spider, Octopus and Crocodile. Easy to guess what they are about (just imagine big CG animals).

There's a sequal out now U.S. Seals 2, looks nothing like the pics on the box!
