Anyone else noticed...
That more US programmes are starting to be framed for 16:9 viewing and that when this is pan and scanned for our 4:3 TV some scene look really WRONG....
I think when some shows went to 16:9 the directors didn't really get in to using the wider aspect when composing the scenes and I presume the writers may not have thought of it either. They seem to be getting better...or worse..now though. Last week when watching Angel there was a shot looking down a corridor of doors that was supposed top be never ending. We saw the GANG on one side of the frame and half the corridor going off in to the distance. I immediately thought..."What's that all about?" Really spoilt it for me.
Do you think there is ANY chance the dimwits over here will start broadcasting these things in correct aspect?
Gordon

It's ironic considering the supposed ptb on both sides of the pond were fronting favour for WS only for channles to then be re-hashing ratios. C4 is a culprit of this with some real crackers of reasons why, like we got the satelite version so you'd get it quicker than wait for the WS (one week that is!), and, the repeats will be WS.
No wonder Angel dvds are advertised flaunting their WS status, which according to the stations should be paradoxical to sales benefits, not.

Yes when I finished my above post I went in the lounge and started watching Smallville, yes 4:3. Is a week too long to wait to let us see it in the correct aspect.

have you tried setting the 'letter-box' option in 'system settings' to 'on' - this gives you the proper widescreen image with sky premier widescreen channel (with a 4.3 tv - with the black bars), not tried it for anything else though.

I know this isn't exactly what you are talking about, but this is quite interesting...

I recall Jeremy Clarkson doing his bit for the virtues of WS on his show by getting to topless honeys to stand in the zonal view for WS but out of view to poor old 4:3 viewers!!
