Cool 50s B&W sci-fi

Is there anyone else who likes those old 50s sci-fi films particularly black and white ones.
Some I like are (hope they are 50s):
The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
Them
The Thing
I Married A Monster From Outer Space (a better film than the cheesy title)
It Came From Outer Space
Tarantula
The Black Scorpion
The Day The Earth Stood Still

any others I should have mentioned?

Do you mean the TV one rather than the Hammer colour one. If it is I agree with you I have it on video and scares me the same way as well, funny there is really no gory scenes or fantastic monsters, just dam good writing and production/direction what ever, as most of the fear is implied. Probably the most scary tape I have. It is a shame they have not re-mastered and released Quatermass II. Saw a tribute night on BBC2 to an old building that the BBC use to produce the early stuff and the showed an episode and thought it was fantastic(far better than the movie, albeit I enjoyed it) and the music that was scary as well, I wonder if it is available.
The story beat Invasion of the Body Snatchers by a year for aliens taking over human bodies.
Thank for reminding me that one Timh, nothing I want to watch on TV tonight, but there is no way am I putting that on before bedtime.

Timh just looked at your age, too old to see the TV one as a child, too old to be classed as a child when the video came out so you must mean the film?
Not a bad film but not a patch on the TV one, I liked the end where James Donald rides the crane into the Devil thing. Tip try to watch the TV one on video or the recently issued DVD.

Creature from the Black Lagoon probably fits the bill. Rumoured to be a early appearance by Clint Eastwood as the creature. I've only seen it as a standard 8mm film but I think it's around on video.

I didn’t know that, I knew he made an early screen appearance in Tarantula as one of the jet pilots.

Are you sure it wasn’t George Peppard (joke).

I've always been partial to Leslie Nielson and Robbie the Robot in "Forbidden Planet".

Also one of my favourites, a big award winner at its release.
This has to be one of the first Sci-fi Horror movies with a big budget, its also got to be the only film with Leslie Nielson not acting the goat.
I loved the scene when the Monster from the IDD attacks the ship
Its also in Colour

And one of mine. Highly innovative visuals and sound effects. I even liked the TV spin-off. Lost in Space. Surely this must be ripe for a DVD release now, especially after the movie.

Hi Timh
Just finished Watching Qutermass & The Pit, I didn’t find it as bad this time. contrary to what I said before I found it a bit slow, some of the acting was amateur apart from the two main characters Quatermass (André Morell), Roney ( Cec Linder who played Felix Leiter In Goldfinger) and a early appearance of John Stratton (Shockeye in the Dr Who Story the Two Doctors).
As I said before I found it very frightening a few years ago when I first watched it, so why not this time?
For its time it must have been brilliant.

War of the Worlds was also very good for its day, mind you not too bad now.
This Island Earth (talk about BEM’s and a few holes in logic)

How about 'The Day The Earth Caught Fire' ? (just into the 60's so may not count)...

One of the greatest cliff-hanger endings of all time.

Watch out for a very brief appearance by the young Michael Caine...
