Is this story taken from a book by 2 authors that also wrote Thin Air G.E.Simpson and N.R.Burger?

We watched this as it seemed to promise a lot. What a disappointment! It was messy and all over the place, as though the writer didn't know what to do with all the bits he had dreamed up. Why did the sub reappear? Why did it return to the depths? Was it haunted or was there a Bermuda Triangle thing going on?
What on Earth were the Germans doing broadcasting in the 'UHF band'? What happened to the chlorine gas when David Jason went back on board to scuttle the sub?
What a mess! Was it the writer's first attempt? Sure looked like it.

Soon as i saw from the trailer that David Jason was in it, i was put off completely. Just cant shake his voice association with Del Boy and Granville.

To be fair I thought David Jason's acting in it was very good. Never once did I think of Del Boy or Granville....the sign of a good actor.
