What happened to the Lestat movie?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't their a book before 'Queen Of The Damned' called 'The Vampire Lestat'? Does anyone know why this hasn't been made into a movie? Perhaps it's a crap story, I wouldn't know as I haven't read the books.

Alls i know is, Tom cruze is not in the new one, so he would not of been in the one you was hoping for, which makes them both not worth watching.
