What's happened to part 2 Stargate Atlantis finale

Can anyone explain what on earth has happened to tonights Atlantis season finale (part 2) 23rd March. Last weeks Part 1 left everyone hanging on as the Raith ship with SG Atlantis members onboard head towards earth. I looked at my Sky+ planner tonight with anticipation only to find that the item had disappeared. When I checked the schedules series 6 SG1 repeats are listed instead. Boohoo

Last week's episode finished season 2. There are only 20 episodes in season 2. As usual, it was left on a cliffhanger. This is the norm for series that know it will be renewed for another season!!!!!

The synopsis said (part 1 of 2) explosive season finale, then went on to give brief description of events. Now call me thick if you want to but to state part 1 of 2 part season finale leads one not unreasonably to assume that part 2 will be shown the following week and not in 8 months time.

Well technically they were correct because it was part 1 of 2 and it was a season finale, they just phrased it very badly.

The end of season is nearly always part one of two - they leave it on a cliffhanger to get you back to watch the next season to find out what happens.

atlantis and sg1 both ended, but unless you're on a forum like this you'd never know, on sky they said nothing! whatever happened to "and to see the thrilling conclusion, catch the new series, returning to itv17 sometime in the next couple of years, ant & dec scheduling permitting..."

You know if you actually read the programme synopsis by clicking the I button on your Sky remote control 99 per cent of the time it tells you when an episode is the season finale. Personally I don't read the synopsis I just scan to know whether it's the last episode or not.

yeah, i know that, it's just that they give no mention of when the show will return, something that always used to be said at the end of a series. they irritate so many people with pop-ups and logos during shows telling us what's on next but can't be bothered to give even a vague idea of when the next series might start. a simple "stargate:atlantis will return in the autumn" would suffice. as it is we get this pre-recorded woman talking about what's on now over the credits, and sometimes the actual end of the show.
i feel they rely too much on automated pre-recorded items like this, surely having an actual person on hand to add a little personality and humanity to the station would help matters enormously. it's off topic a little, but i think a live announcer would be a good thing on sky. and they could see then if the programme had actually ended before they started announcing!

Hi,

I can understand people's frustration with Sky's appalling usage of irrelevent and unimpressive voice-overs, but in all honesty, I wouldn't trust Sky to understand whether they knew if a show was having its final episode aired or not.

I have to say, in most cases, fans of a show will normally access the AVForums or Epguides.com to see how many episodes a particular show has. Also, Sky don't announce when the next season of a show will air, as sometimes they don't, won't or can't buy the next series, due to whatever lousy reason they give, and it's then left for other channels to pick up the mess. See "Alias" as one good example of what happens to a good show, that Sky decided wasn't good enough! "NYPD Blue" on Channel Whore is another good example. Fans often know more about when a show is likely to return to a particular channel, than the channel that physically airs it in the UK! That's why I try to post as much news (and read as much) from websites, where I know the people providing the information, are likely to know what they're talking about!

Now please don't get me started about NYPD Blue, I am still grieving for the loss of that most brilliant of shows. Someone having a cuppa gets released on DVD these days and yet for some reason not NYPD Blue - well not beyond series 2 as far as I know.

Gee season 3 eh! I think we in the UK were treated to Series 9 before Channel 4 abdicated all sense of reasonable programming and scheduling in favour of reality t.v. shows. The series has now finally ended in the US somewhere around Series 13 if not higher, so by the time series 10 to the final series is released here in the UK I should just be of pensionable age. Still something to look forward to in my dotage.

Thumbs up

Faust,

NYPD Blue lasted 12 complete seasons, and Season 4 is due for a UK Region 2 release hopefully over the Summer in 2006!

Which leave us by my reckoning three series short in the UK. However, as it has taken them three years thus far to reach Season 4 on DVD it's going to be a hell of a long time before we reach that magic series 10.
