the great big british quiz

Hello all - I'm relatively new to sky and the multitude of stuff hidden away on its deepest, darkest channels - several weeks ago I came across this quiz channel that had folk phoning in trying to guess an answer to a pretty ambiguous question - I just flicked through the channels tonight and it's still on with the same question

The grand prize was a million bucks or something - I'm assuming they're looking to make at least 10 times that before they tell people the answer..

I know this post isn't really saying anything I'm just so stunned that there has been a programme on pretty much non stop for weeks and weeks asking the same question and expecting people to keep watching and phoning in

In the words of Peter Griffin - it really grinds my gears!

And to grind them even further the presenters insist on saying things like "Just Add...The....Numbers..., that all you have to do".

1.48 am - have you been watching all night?

And another thing even in the short space that I watched the same answers were given by the people phoning in, you'd think they'd at least try to be original with such an obviously dodgy question..

Maybe we should put out a web wide plea for the answer - somebody somewhere must have seen this question before - this question must be stopped!

No question is actually asked. The phrase is "Add the numbers!"

This gives rise to the fact that there are many possible answers which could be given. Someone has more than likely already given one of these answers, but it's not the particular answer they are looking for.

Agreed - there is a graphic of a calculator, theoretically you could add the numbers from the keypad not to mention whatever could be on it's display, also do you take any letters that appear and give them there roman numeral value and on and on etc....ARGGGHHH

I won't be surprised if I pass by that channel in a few weeks time and it's STILL being asked...it just makes me think you'd really have to be desperate to get on the telly to present something as mind numbingly tedious as that..

In case anyone was dying to know, the answer to THAT puzzle was 4616.

From what my father remembers, it apparently involved converting the whole thing into roman numerals. So Bertha, you were on to something.

Exclamation

Bertha,

Can I just say one thing, please...

ALL OF THESE QUIZ CHANNELS ARE A COMPLETE CON!!!

Please don't waste your time, energy or phone bill on trying to win one of these quizzes, as they are deliberatley rigged to be as blindingly unwinnable, as is humanly possible! Many of these wuiz companies and quiz programmes frequently get into trouble with OFCOM, because the competitions are deliberately vague, and thus it is almost impossible to actually win.

Even the simplest of quizzes, with the most obvious answer, will always be made much, much, MUCH more complex, because the companies running the quizzes want to fleece the viewers out of as much money as possible, whilst giving away as little money as possible.

Also, it has been implied that many of these quizzes frequently use fake callers, to "boost" the few number of people who actually call them channels up! In essence, this is why they can happily offer a regular cash prize of say £5000, and have a bonus prize of £50,000. The chances of anyone actually winning their quizzes are infintesimal!

So please, don't enter them! The only winners, are the TV companies, and quiz channels who are fleecing you at £1-50 per minute, on their phone lines!
