Cool Dr Who to come back?

I read in the paper today that the BBC was going to bring back and they are considering (please do not read any further sean 62, this could be hazardous to your health) Ken Dodd to be the new Dr Who.

Cool

I did not like Sylvester McCoy in the regular Dr Who yet when he was in the TV Movie I though he was quite good.
Also I thought the some of the stories got a bit ropy towards the end of Tom Bakers stint and got worse toward the cancellation, for goodness sake Bertie Basset, not there wasn’t some gems amongst them eg Earthshock, Caves of Androzaini.

Ken bloody Dodd!

Freddie Jones perhaps - he's only a couple of months older than KD, but not Ken bloody Dodd.

I'm a great fan of the series up to Shada, so to be honest I'd rather let sleeping dogs lie.

i heard this too about a new film or series and i can`t remember what magazine it was. Antony hopkins was going play Dr Who. It could be a wild rumour but i am sure i read that somewhere.

Cool

I always thought Geoffrey Bayldon .... Catweazle/The Crowman would have been a good Doctor may be to old now. But what about Martin Jarvis.
By the way a good suggestion, Freddie Jones great character actor.
I did not like The Key Of Time season even though I think Mary Tamm is quite scrumy (could not eat her though, if you know of that film).

MMMMMMmmm...

Mary Tamm, classy lady

btw, like the Geoffrey Bayldon idea too. I think the doc would need a 'Great British Eccentric' in the lead role if it were to stand any chance of making a successful comeback.

My greatest fear would be some trendy young actor in the Ant & Dec mold playing it for laughs. It's always been tongue in cheek (though darkly so at times), but should never be pantomime-esque (thank you Mr Nathan-Turner)

Could do worse than employ a silver haired Mr Baker (T), I'm sure the storyline of his re-re-generation could be most amusing!

Garrett,

I always thought that you were one of the younger ones here but Catweazle must have been at least 30 years ago and I don't recall it having being repeated.

I last remember it on Granada+ in late '95/early '96. Before that it must of been ITV in the late 80's.

I'm not the religeous type but I'm praying for a DVD release sometime soon.

It has, but then again I just could be on my second regeneration, brought on by electrickery.
Adamtos.
