brillian advert

just saw the latest Honda Civic advert on TV and it's brilliant, a choir features a massed group of 60 vocalists "singing" the sounds of a Honda Civic journeying through city streets and the wide open road.

I'd like to watch it again but can't find it on the net, anyone knows where I can get hold of it ?

Yeah, I caught that, too. Goes on for a bit, but it's worth it.

Not as good as the full Accord advert where all the bits of car knocked into each other, don't you think?

I hate this advert for two reasons.

1. Its a blatent rip off of an experimental film from decades ago (which actually did the same thing but for real ...lots of contraptions cascading a movement together over time).

2. The claim made by the advert makers that its one take and doesn't use any CG... total baloney. The sony bravia advert makes similar bogus claims abot not involving cg.

Judging from other advert placements, I would think there'll be a good chance of seeing it, same time, same place next week.

Found it first time at the obvious place, Honda's website
- from the main page you can click straight to www.honda.co.uk/civic where you can dowload the ad and rehearsals

If you want to bypass the above, you can right-click and save with these URLs the zipped MPEG-4 video files (.m4v files will play on QT and iTunes):-
media.honda.co.uk/campaign/civic/podcast/hondacivicchoir.zip
media.honda.co.uk/campaign/civic/podcast/hondacivicchoirrehearsal.zip

hi,

It's cleverly made, but boy is it completely pointless! It certainly wouldn't make me want to go out and get a Honda car, that's for sure!

What's the matter with ya Dave, Honda make fantastic cars! I bet if you found a cheap S2000 you'd buy one, despite the Civic ad. The ad is a hell of a lot better than some Mercedes pretentious pap.
As it happens I like the diesel accord one the best - with the flying engine. For some reason, I can't get the tune out of my head after I see it on the TV!

Don't know what you are getting at ?

I have the dvd where you see the filmmakers set up the ad and run it through - like a rehearsal for the real filming. You also see all the failed attempts at putting wheel balancers in the alloys to get them to go uphill and such like. There is not a single piece CGI on that ad.

Gary

Did you ever see the article in Creative Review about the Sony ad? According to the article it was all done in one take. They had literally 1000's of rubber balls that were fired from air cannons and/or dropped from huge bins. They openly admit that there was a certain amount of post production involved. But basically it was done with rubber balls and not some CGi particle generator.

BTW this was the US production company that was involved in the article and not Sony themselves.

So unless they completely lied to the magazine...

EDIT: also found this about the Accord advert
http://www.snopes.com/autos/business/hondacog.asp

I usually find Snopes pretty good on things like this. Perhaps not one take but no CGi in the mechanics of the advert. And pretty damned impressive all the same.

So why do you hate it so much when it's so obviously been superbly done.

ironically i always thought that the Bravia advert with the bouncing balls looks totally fake and as such was totally underwhelmed by it. Dispite the dfact they obviously went to so much trouble to do it all for real.

They lied about the Accord advert , I know the guys that worked on it. Its took lots of CG and 2d manipulation to get it all working. They laugh themselves silly over it.

Nice to see snopes mention the original film that was so blatently ripped off. Ad guys do this sort of stuff all the time cruising the short film circuit ripping off ideas and taking credit for it.

On the bravia advert the foreground balls are CGI. A lot of the shots have been beefed up to make the balls look denser by overlaying multiple takes or adding in CG balls. Its actually very poor work.

Pointless ad if you ask me. I sat there not having a clue what was being advertised and when I finally worked it out YOU DIDN't EVEN GET TO SEE WHAT THE THING LOOKED LIKE!!!!!!
