The Munich Air Crash

In February 1958 the talented young Manchester United football team ("the Busby Babes") flew to Yugoslavia to play Red Star Belgrade in the European Cup quarter-finals. They got through but, tragically, after refuelling at Munich on the way home, the plane crashed as it took off.

Thx will record this one - went to Old Trafford recently to watch the Chelsea game and went to the museum where they had old newspapers from the time, it was hard not to be moved. Certainly, a great tragedy.

Not for us oldies!

I was just into my teens at the time and remember being at my Gran's when the terrible news came through.

Munich seemed like another planet at the time, of course.

Much more recently I flew from Munich Airport and couldn't help reflecting on what had taken place there.

To all who perished: R.I.P.
