Hi,

Yeh, I have got s2 from the US and was pleasantly surprised with the increase in pace of the show and better storylines. Just a shame we have to wait for the release of 2.1

That's not saying much as I thought the first series was disappointing after a promising pilot.

I do think that it's rattling along at a hell of a pace now. I enjoyed the first series but it was slow at times. Not the second series.

I almost wish I hadn't got into watching US TV now. Having got hold of the first half of Season 2 and watched it in about 2 days, I'm too impatient now to wait a week to see what happens.

Just on a general point, I do find that most series are better when watched in "bulk". When you wait week on week for each episode, a weaker or slower one can affect your perspective and opinion of the whole show. However, when you watch them a few at a time, it doesn't seem to matter as much.

I watched Lost on DVD. I probably would have given up on it if I'd had to watch it on TV and wait each week for the next one, but really enjoyed watching them on DVD.

Looking forward to this one. I thought the first season was good, it just about has that 'Just one more' about it.

Hope the rumours are true with the second season being better than the first.

I have so far seen 11 episodes of Season 2 and I think its safe to say that not only is it better than the first season but its one of the best things on TV at the moment

Cant wait for the 2.5 DVD release though with the extended version of Pegasus

Now dont hurt me Dave but Iam forced to agree with Ian J. Although I really enjoyed this series (best TV of last year IMO) I thought It would have been better tho.

I hear series 2 is better though, but as we got rid of sky before christmas I will have to wait untill Pay Day to order the DVD's

I've never watched Battlestar Galactica on Sky only ever on DVD but can anybody tell me if the picture was not up to scratch last night. Usually I don't notice this sort of thing since I don't have a fantastic TV but the picture quality looked below par to me. Did anybody else think the same? Maybe they have reduced the quality of the image to make their high definition channel that even better?

You'll very very rarely get a digital broadcast that can match a DVD in terms of PQ so a reduction in quality is the norm.
Having said that I have noticed in the past month the SKY stat muxing has been allocating lower bitrates to quite a lot of SKY1's programming with 4% on a standard SKY+ being the norm where as before 5% and even 6% could be expected. As you scale up the display size and move to flat panel this has to have an impact.

I doubt it is a deliberate policy, with the risk of losing millions of pounds of SD subscriptions in an attempt to gain thousands of pounds of HD subs it simply would not make sense. Indifference and incompetence are probably far more likely a reason for the recent drop in some SKY1 broadcasts.

I didn't expect the picture quality to be comparable with the DVD. I just hadn't noticed any other programme on Sky making me think the picture quality was not up to standard. I'm glad it's not just me.

However if a few of the channels are showing the same thing or all have content which requires a high bitrate then there simply is not enough to go around and PQ suffers.

According to Lyngsat SKY1 shares capacity with 4 movie channels, perhaps the demands of Premium content is causing SKY1 to suffer.

As bitrate drops then digital artifacts are created which may or may not be visible on smaller displays or CRT's, as you scale up the screen size or move to the more demanding flat panels then faults that were invisible become very apparant.

The last Nip/Tuck before xmas was perhaps the worst program for PQ I had ever seen on SKY1. Right now SKY1 is no where near as good as it has been before, it's still better than most but it should be better and I do hope it's not by design.

Remember that Battlestar has a deleberatly grainy image at times. This coupled with skys poor tranmision just does not help matters.

just watched last night's episode. . . .

Awesome. Really love this show, just a shame that we have to watch week by week, why can't I just have it all now!

Lovin' it!
