The Mary Whitehouse Experience

Does anyone remember this? if you are of mid 20's or younger then probly not.
Would love to get hold of some of the episodes as it really was a class programme that didn't last much longer than a couple of years if I remember rightly. Anybody have any old eps that I could grab? Long shot I know.

Sure do - went to most of the radio recordings from about 1989 to 1990 whilst a student in London, then a few of the TV recordings when they transferred to BBC2.

Lasted two series on TV, the first was pretty crap as it was just the radio sketches redone for TV and turned out less funny than the radio series; the second series coincided with Baddiel and Newman going on tour together so had a lot of their new material, namely History Today ("You see that Geoff Capes? That's your mum that is! That's Your mum looking extra feminine"), bloke with a sarcastic tone of voice etc.

Never actually found Punt & Dennis that funny; Milky Milky wasn't really funny beyond one sketch. They actually had a much better and expanded group on the radio series.. Mark Thomas, Kevin Day, Nick Hancock, Mark Steel, etc often being the fifth member of TMWE. Armando Ianucci was also the producer of the radio series and was very funny during the audience warmup - he's gone on to bigger and better thing as TV comedy writer/producer/performer and newspaper columnist.

Did make the odd VHS recording, but think they're somewhere in my parents' attic.

Have got some, not many on a VHS recorded off TV somewhere , I think I had more off Newman & Bladiblubs spin off series though.

If I can locate them, my skills don't really go beyond copying them to another VHS. Which involves having 2 Vids for a start.

It's all getting a bit tricky now.

I downloaded (from a legal site) a load of their radio shows a couple of years ago, but can't for the life of me remember where I got them ! They are still a good listen after all these years.

If Fist of Fun hasn't had a DVD release, this won't. From what I hear, the BBC went through another "chuck tapes in the bin" phase in the early nineties. Loads of shows like this potentially weren't archived....

You may like to try a search on that popular internet auction site.

Robert Newman was the real comedy genius of the bunch. He still tours now and again. Well worth seeing.

I may be wrong but wasn't from Newman & Baddiel In Pieces, which came much later.

Agree about a DVD release though.....long overdue.
