According to TV.com tonights was an extended episode but next weeks is normal and that is also indicated by the digiguide listing and EPG.

Fordy,

The extended episode of "The Shield" was for several purposes:

1) The 90-minute (US duration, with ads), air time allowed them to tell the story but did not slow it down like a 2hour episode might have done.

2) It was the 51st episode of the series. The producers felt it was better to extend this episode, rather than extend the 50th episode last week.

3) The story was felt better if aired as a longer, single episode, than split into two regular episodes (and filled with extraneous filler material that would probably have spoilt the pacing).

4) Lastly, to set viewers up for the final trilopgy of episodes of Season 4!

I thought this was an exceptional episode, written by the show's creator Shawn Ryan! Really great scenes, brilliant acting, and some good storylines being set-up for us. (What the hell's going on with Aceveda? And what about Dani and Julien's partnership? That looks like something is gonna blow-up soon... and very badly!)

I think the whole things gonna blow up big time. I cant believe Acaveda is over "IT", just like that, its too simple. I definately dont think this is the last we've seen of Antwon and I think Dutch is gonna snap (someones neck maybe?)....

For me this has been the best series so far; all great though. Glenn Close has really made it for me.
