Exclamation The Horror Channel - A warning!

Hi,

Those of you with Sky or Sky+ boxes should be aware that Sky are currently upgrading the EPG. And, as is always the case, there are numerous problems with both regular Sky boxes and Sky+ boxes as well. If you've got the software upgrade, your Sky EPG should now have a light-blue background, and more functions (like advanced parental control features, restricting the red dot, et al), instead of the regular blue/yellow EPG design.

If you DO have the new software EPG upgrade, then you should read the following, in relation to the Horror Channel. If you DON'T have the new upgrade, then please ignore this post, as it doesn't apply to you.

For some bizarre reason, the new software upgrade appears to now block the Horror Channel (Sky 330). What I mean is that irrespective of whether you have children or not, and irrespective of what subscription you have, when you dial 330 into the Sky box, it will probably ask you for your PIN number - regardless of what other Parental Control features you have or haven't set-up. It seems to do this, irrespective of what time of day or night you are watching, and irrespective of what is being broadcast. Arrrgggghhhh!!!!!

So, please bear this in mind!

What annoys me, is that I live on my own, so I don't want or need any Parental Control functions. However, even though I've switched them off, whenever I want to watch the Horror Channel, it still asks me for my damn PIN number. Thanks a lot Sky!

Yes I noticed this last night, it is not just the horror channel it's happening on as well. There are a lot of unhappy people posting about this in the Sky+ forum. Most people also don't know what their pin number is.

I noticed this as well.....I tried to watch a recorded movie from my Sky+ Planner only to find it asking me for a pin. I guess this was because it was 18 rated. I turned off the parental restrictions but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

If you've had a new viewing card then the pin number will be different as it's the last 4 digits of your original card.

Anything rated 15 or 18 asks for a PIN. This is obviously a software bug - it thinks parental control is switched on when it isn't.

Hi Pooch,

I posted on a Sky thread earlier on today about this update annoyance. I recorded "Jeepers Creepers", such an innocuous 15 rated horror movie but was asked for my PIN when I tried to watch it one afternoon. Fortunately, I knew where it was (and it was not the last four numbers on my viewing card). For people who have mislaid their's or moved house, etc. it must be extremely frustrating and infuriating.

There should be an option for adult only households, like yours and mine, Sky is meant to be easy viewing!

I've voiced my opinions to Sky Customer Relations as there's only me in the house as well, so I need an override for this.

Strangely my box, never asks for the pin, and I have the new light blue background.

The Outlaw Josey Wales on the TCM channel wanted a pin number but was ok after 10 pm (all my parental controls are set to unlock)
I do like the new red dot timeout setting though. Handy when I record something off sky.

HI,

Well, I've got the new software upgrade, and the Red Dot option is no longer a choice of when it times out, but a choice of do I want it, or do I not want it. I think most of you will guess, which of the two choices I selected.

Also, this whole PIN thing is doing my head in! There should be some kind of override option, for people who don't want to constantly enter their PIN just to see what a particular movie channel is showing. See my comments here!
