I think Tim Burton made a better go of Planet Of The Apes than most directors could, although it does seem to languish in the wasteland of "where's the story??" that most of the Summer movies slip into. The make-up is absolutely superb though, they are apes and it's bound to get an Oscar. Mind you, Helena B-C's make-up loses them a few points as she looks like all they've done is stuck half a bald tennis ball on her face - not good at all. Visually it all looks great, so I blame the writers who just seemed to concern themselves with slipping in as many "knowing" homages to the original as possible by way of dialogue, and most of the dialogue is seriously cringeworthy. Still, it was strangely satisfying for some reason when really it shouldn't have been.
