ITV plans talent show for '80s stars
Saturday, February 12 2005, 11:47 GMT -- by Daniel Kilkelly

ITV are planning a talent show which sees '80s stars getting another chance at success, The Sun reports today.

The show is expected to follow the format of Pop Idol and X Factor, giving viewers the opportunity to vote for their favourite act each week.

Hit Me Baby One More Time begins in April, and the newspaper claims that '80s girl-group The Bangles have already signed up for the show.

Didn't they already try this with "Reborn In The USA" (cue hissy fits from Sonia, Dollar and assorted other "fragile egos")?

Some of that was good for a horror stricken laugh, so this might be a bit of fun seeing what depths of humiliation the has-been and desperate put themselves through for a second fifteen minutes of fame.

If they still have what it takes to make the Top 10, then

a) Why aren't they there?

b) What are they doing on a public humiliation type TV "talent" show?

i expect there are a few 80's bands who dropped from the scene purely because everything is so manufactured now, that they don't really feel they have a place, or they don't want one. saying that, there's a few out there, like cyndy lauper, madness, frankie goes to hollywood etc who have lasting appeal, and could probably make it again, but don't need to since they made so much money the first time around.

oh great, another reality tv show

I suppose it wont be to bad if there are some decent acts on there, unfortunatly if they were decent they probably wont need to go on the program in the first place

I very much doubt they'd make it myself. They dont tend to turn their backs on fame its the other way round
