Can you 'image' these film studios?

Last night an innocent question turned into a heated competition, well not exactly heated but we were distracted from Shamless for at least five minutes...

Question - what Studios / Distributors use which graphics / images e.g.
MGM = Lion

A little bit frivolous, but what the heck. Here goes:

All Yours...

Columbia Tri-Star - Generally the Statue of Liberty or a Unicorn coming out of clouds, towards the viewer, or combination of both.

Lucasarts - Generally just the words "Lucasarts" in sparkling green lettering.

Pixar - The animated toy lamp, that bounces up and down on one of the letters.

Dreamworks - A boy fishing in a pool of water, and ripples come out. Sometimes there's music, sometimes it's silent. Sometimes in blue, sometimes in other colours.

Studio Canal+ - Generally the screen is black, with the letters C, A, N, A, and L, appearing haphazardly, before a boom sound completes the whole logo. An odd one to describe.

Paramount - The static picture of mountains, then a small fleet of silver stars come flying onto the screen "arc-ing" the mountains, before the "Paramount" wording appears. On older Paramount films, (usually pre-1980's), the logo was all static.

Hammer - I don't think Hammer had any "image" for their logo. Most of their films just started, and then the words "A Hammer Film Production", or similar, would appear.

20th Century Fox - The classic "Fox" theme tune, with the moving spotlights moving over the words "20th Century Fox". Still a classic, to this day. (This was modified, as an in-joke, for the TV series, to "30th Century Fox", for "Futurama", as the show was set in the 31st Century.)

Disney - Normally, it's just Mickey Mouse sprinkling dust over the "Disney castle" symbol, and the word" Disney" or "Walt Disney Productions" underneath.

Warner Bros - Used to be a 70's type, white "W", but I don't think they now have an official "image" or logo.

You may want to also consider the following studios:

- Metro Tartan / Tartan Video / Tartan DVD
- Studio Ghibli (Japanese Anime)
- Manga Entertainment
- Film Four / Channel 4 Films
- BBC
- Palace Films (from the early to mid-1980's only)

Isn't the Columbia Tristar horse a winged horse not a unicorn ?

Dreamworks as well as the boy on a crescent moon now have him floating to the moon holding ballons that when realeased by him rise further bursting into letters forming "dreamworks"

Miramax the letters form from lights staying on (where all others fade out) in a sky scraper/city skyline.

Universal is the rotating globe with "Universal spinning around it as the whole thing pans back.

Lucasfilm is the sparkling green letters not Lucas Arts. Lucas Arts is the L with the figure holding some kind of arc above its head.

That'll be Tinkerbell - not Mickey Mouse - sprinkling the pixie dust over the Disney castle.

And shame on anyone calling themselves a movie fan not knowing the classic Warner Brothers shield! Up there with Fox as probably the most famous of studio logos.

Yes before the WB shield it used to be like black box with Warner Bros text and 3 lines to the left cut out or something? Remembering early Exorcist Video & Mad Max had that logo. If the original DVD has the logo I'll try and do a screen cap of it - mostly to justify I'm not entirely mad........

You're not going mad, indeed before the shield was the black and white stylized "W", but before that (for about 50 years before that in fact) there was also the shield.

The b&w logo was used for about five or six years or so in the '70s when some clod at the studio decided the shield was "old hat".

In 1979 director Nicholas Meyer insisted on the shield (and the accompanying old style Warner musical fanfare) at the opening of his movie "Time After Time". At practically every preview across the country the appearance of the classic shield and fanfare was greeted by cheers from the audience.

The fact was duly noted by Warner executives and it was immediately reinstated as the company's logo and remains so till this day.

By the way - What is Buena Vista logo? Can't remeber... and it's annoying now

Hi,

I don't think Buena Vista actually has a proper "image", like Warners, or Fox. As far as I know, BV is a division of Walt Disney and/or Miramax Pictures. So, BV generally just has their name made-up of yellow lettering on a black background.

At least, I think it does. All the BV official sites don't seem to exist on the Net anymore, for some reason.

Buena Vista at one time used the Disney castle logo but I think it might have stopped that now (to easier differentiate between the main Disney brand)
