Exclamation CSI: Crime Scene Investigation fans - read this!

Hi,

For any of you who really love crime shows, and all things to do with crime, the law, and the darker side of life, may I heartily recommend the new DVD partwork series: "CSI: Crime Scene Investigatiom".

Each fortnight, you get a DVD with two episodes, starting right from the very beginning with Season 1. Issue 1 is just £3-99, but all subsequent issues are £7-99.

Issue 2 includes a free DVD Collectors Box, to house Season 1 and 2 in. If you subscribe, you can get some reasonably good free gifts, too, including a min-digital camera, a CSI ring-binder to house all the issues in, and also a metal DVD collectors box, with the CSI logo embossed into it.

Normally, I'm not a big fan of these DVD part-works, only because it tends to be far-cheaper to buy the DVD boxed-sets themselves. However, what makes this a nice difference from all the other DVD part-works that have come out since December 2004, is the fact that the "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" magazine, deals not only with the show, the cast and crew, and behind-the-scenes material, but gives you a genuinely fun and intelligent background into crime, law, and all things forensic.

Issue 1 deals with autopsies, dissecting a body, forensic tools-of-the-trade, and the real Gil Grissom who inspired the show's lead male character. It also includes a crime puzzle for you to solve, too. And trust me, it isn't easy (unless you cheat)!

Each DVD is a single-sided, single-layered disc, containing 2 episodes, uncut, uncensored, and where appropriate in widescreen, with DD 5.1 sound too! (Season 1 was always made and shown in 4:3, and only has stereo sound!)

Currently, only Seasons 1 and 2 are scheduled for release, but depending on sales figures, Season 3 onwards may also be released!

Definitely worth an investigation. More info can be found... here!

Do you work for these people?

Virgin are currently selling the half-season boxes for £12.99. Why on earth would anyone want to spend over £80 per season just to get a cheap mag & 'free' gifts with it?

Aprout,

If you knew me well enough, then you wouldn't ask such a question. But, seeing as you have done so, maybe this will clarify things...

I AM IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH ANY OF THESE DVD/MAGAZINE COMPANIES IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!

I was simply recommending something that I thought some people might like. Obviously, you don't like it, which is fine, so don't buy it! There! Does that help you, Aprout?!

Sheesh!

Is CSI any good? £12.99 sounds like a good deal to me, how many episodes is that for?

Smurfin, i asked the same question last year

1st season: wasn't to bad (a bit rough round the edges but not bad)
2nd season (first half): Greatly improved
2nd season (second half): Bang, pop, wow!! got much better
3rd season: as good as anything i've ever seen on american TV

over the holidays i watched seasons 2 and 3 in five days!!!

well worth a punt.

Orginal Thread: CSI - is it any good?

Gary

Crikey, calm down mate!

You're right, I have no idea who you are, it's just that your first post looked like an advert for this thing & I was just pointing out that it seem to me like an almighty con to pay £50+ over the odds per season to get a few freebies! No personal insult intended!

& for the record, I love CSI, I just hate these overpriced magazine/dvd things that seem to be spreading like wildfire at the moment.

Aprout,

My apologies to you also. No offence was intended, I'd just had a really day, and (unfortunately) took it out on you, which was very, very wrong of me. My genuine and sincere apologies to you.

Unhappy

I gave this one a try but it looks like the disks use the same source that the R2 Box set uses. This means that the signature tune (Who are You? by the Who does not feature). It's replaced by some generic stuff. For the purist this is a major dis-incentive. Oh well!

Hi,

Yeah, that is a major problem, I have to admit. Does anyone know why the music has been changed from "The Who's Who Are You?" to this generic synth stuff? And what about the Region 4, Region 1 and other R2 releases? Are they affected also, or not?

It is only season one that is affected by the change in music. The rights to the music couldn't get sorted out by the release date. I didn't even notice for several epsiodes anyway.

I bought the first issue only as it was £3.99 just to see what the content of the magazine was, it is interesting covering ballistics and other CSI topics.

However I would not buy the magazine series as it is £7.99 an issue as it would be cheaper to buy the boxsets however your not getting the magazines but surely you can look on the internet if your interested in CSI.

As for the free gifts that they say total over £30

Digital camera (worth £19.99) surely it is not a good camera
1 Binder and if you require more, which youy probably will they cost £4.99
Metal display case - looks ok but would not make me subscribe

Wonder how long they will stretch the magazine series out, £7.99 every two weeks the money adds up.
