In Search of Speed- BBC 4 7pm

Not part of the endless series of programs on drug culture but instead one of the very best documentaries I have seen for a while. It centres around the battle for the World Land Speed Record over four years between 1962-66. It was in all honesty the most interesting, and gripping thing I've watched in a while- helped by excellent footage, good interviews and a well chosen soundtrack. If you want to listen to a man calmly explaining how he applied "a bit more steering lock" as the suspension member of his car broke in excess of 500mph, kept the throttle open and set a new record, this is unmissable.

It seems to be on again. Sadly my clairvoyance classes aren't going that well.

Just (literally this minute) finished watching that episode, wonderful stuff.

Next week it is "Battle of the Rocket Men": Featuring heart-stopping archive footage and interviews with the people involved, this episode tells the story of air speed records from post war to Space Race.

The 3rd, and final, episode (probably firstly on January 19th) concerns attempts to break the water speed record.
