Ok a bit of fun for the non book readers. What are your predictions for season 3? How do you think the story is going to play out?

A good last episode, but overall the season for me didn't match the first. I hope they come back strong with the 3rd. Perhaps it was a more difficult book to adapt, but I thought the strain showed of trying to fit in too much story. It definitely needed more episodes than 10.

My guesses:
Jon snow joins the wildings, possibly becomes a leader
Danaerys makes her way to westeros
Jaquen hghar us still a lean mean killing machine
Robb should eventually beat the lannisters
Jamie lannister escapes from brienne
Walder frey is ****** about Robb and his new wife
Arya doesn't make it back to winterfell because she's so far away

Probably all wrong but oh well

It feels like all the supernatural elements are going to kick off, which I suspect will lead to some unusual alliances amongst the Houses. But I think Tyrion is gonna kick some ass, well here's hoping

It's an interesting point about the second book being more difficult to adapt. I always thought the first two books are aligned with Fellowship/Two Towers. The first one deals mainly with Ned as the protagonist, and various peripheral characters. There's more of a "journey" there. The second book is more fragmented with secondary characters doing their own thing and being promoted to primary. There's also a Helm's Deep/King's Landing climactic battle obviously

Still, I thought they did a great job with quite a difficult job, juggling all those threads. A little less of Dany "MY DRAGONS!" Targaryen and a little more Jon Snow and they've have had the balance right IMHO. And the effects guys really nailed it, I was a little concerned when I saw "Terra Nova" on their CV.

Book 3 should be more of the same, some new characters but not enough to overwhelm. Dany has more to do, ditto Jon Snow. Want it now!

Oh and a bit of a challenge for book readers. Try not to give to much away to the non book readers when they make a prediction.

BTW I loved the season finale but I was a bit disappointed with the House of The Undying.

What you don't want to know that Tyrion becomes a dragon rider? Or Sansa becomes a deadly ninja weeping sister?

What

about Ned Stark coming back from the undead and leading a revolt against the The Others?

But of course I know this, I have read the books. I thought introducing Boba Fett, in the last book, was a desperate move by the author though.

The power was amplified thru her tho. If she hadn't have been there, it couldn't have done it.

Personally as a fan of the books I was a bit disappointed by season 2, though the wife who never read the books really enjoyed it. I think there should have been a few more episodes to give the wealth of characters a little more breathing space.

I didn't understand what happened at Winterfell - anyone care to fill me in? Did I miss something?

SPOILER

Winterfell was surrounded by Stark men so how did the Greyjoy men escape after burning it down? What did they do with Theon? Why didn't Bran and Rick just go to the Stark army and get taken home - why head to the wall? Where were the Stark army - nowhere to be seen when we saw Winterfell burning?

I agree I think 12 episodes would have allowed us that leeway and at least we may have got a little more out of The House of Undying and expanded The Ticklers or Pollivers role a little. I am still disappointed with how they handled the Tickler. :-(

Indeed, this was one of the reasons I felt disappointed, Winterfell and a couple of other instances where there was not enough explanation on what was happening. Another instance being the treatment of Tyrion and his Dad, I really thought these guys would have met up for a chin wag given they

both saved the City
, but no, instead we had the bald guy giving a half hearted

thanks but no thanks speech to Tyrion and his Dad not looking too impressed by being made the new
Hand of the King.

From memory, I think that's the way it happened in the book, FWIW - I took it as being rubbing salt into the wound that not only had Tyrion been badly injured in the battle but he also got none of the credit for saving the city and moved out of the Tower of the Hand (to make way for Tywin) into altogether more modest accommodation.

Winterfell: I think they've deliberately made things obscure. If you're a book reader, you know what's happened, but I reckon Season 3 will be answering this particular question.

Yeah, I understood Joffrey would not want any kudos going to Tyrion, but from what we saw in S1, I'd have thought Tywin would have been suitably impressed with Tyrions actions, instead, it seems he ignored his son and bowed down to a bloke he didn't respect. I may be remembering wrong, but didn't Tywin send Tyrion to Kingslanding to help sort Joffrey out? This just all seemed past over for me.

Also going back a bit now to the Big Battle (blackwater?) with Stannis and his ships.

Seeing the amount of effort and loss of life it took for for Stannis to get over the wall and into the castle, I thought he would have at least tried to lay low blend in with the people over the wall or even put on some armour and kill Joffrey that way.

Maybe he didn't get over the wall in the books. Plus how did he manage to escape back down the wall?

Plus what happened to the black smoke child that fire witch created for him I thought that it was going to play a big part in the war and his claim as King, or did it only last for one killing?

I've just started to read Book 1.

my prediction for the next season as ever is Winter is Coming

I've a feeling we are going to see another major character die in the 3rd Season,
I can't decide on wether it's going to be Joffrey, Rob or Lady Stark.
I do feel that we're going to see a shift from the war at present to joining forces against the white walkers !

Hehe, my other question mark was over Stannis too, but my wife thinks she saw him being dragged away by his own men at the end of the penultimate episode, which sort of explains why he just appeared in a room with the witch, who was indeed quite absent form the battle. I'm assuming she's using Stannis as her puppet.

Yep, Stannis was dragged away by his own troops in the TV episode. In the books, I don't think he quite makes it into the city....

P.S. Black smoke child monster thing is a "one use only" weapon!

accidentally reading about it.

You don't need to spoil for others though just because you read it by accident

I have spoilered you original quote, could you do the same please

Broadly, yes.

Although Weiss and Benioff have said that as the TV series progresses it will probably move away from season 3 = book 3 etc. Which is probably inevitable given that the TV and books are slowly starting to diverge in certain ways, and the books get longer each time so either more has to be compressed into one series (boo hiss!) or each series equates to less than a complete book.

Or there are more episodes in a series, I suppose. Not sure HBO's wallet will spring for that though.

Ah missed him being dragged away, last i saw of him he was chopping away at the top of the wall. Well stannis needs to get busy and knock out an army of those bad boys, I'd give her a go for him.
