Has BBC's Apprentice Had Its day?

OK - I admit it...Im an big Apprentice fan, in fact I have never missed an episode..from any series

I actually dont watch much TV, but I do enjoy this show. Each series has been really great, and year on year I think its built great momentum. However.......with the progression of the new series im wondering if its had its day?

I perhaps wondered if there was new editing/production team as at the end of each episode, I feel like they haven't really hit the mark/not really built to a climax like other pervious seies episodes.

Maybe, its the characters in this series......after a few weeks I cant name a single one of them...very forgettable. In other series I have liked and disliked in equal measure by the end of the third week....half the fun is keeping an eye on who you think is good/interesting !

Anyway...Im feeling short changed.....what do others think ??

I agree with you completely. I have also seen every episode and every series the contestants get worse and worse. This years being the worse.

I also like the apprentice but think its lost its appeal since they changed the format of the show. Since they changed it to the winner going into business with Alan they've spoiled it, Alan surgar has already seen their business plans and what products or services the contestants have to offer and he's already picked his winner.
Last years winner, tom only won because he had already launched a product that was on sale in one of the biggest chains in america, that's an avenue that Alan couldnt pass up on and although tom was weak most weeks and by no means the strongest contestant he still won!
Theres no way of guessing who will the show these days based on their performance on the show, it will all come down to whos product or business is deemed to have the most potential and this would have been know by Alan from the beginning.

Pretty much agree with all of the above, I only bothered with the last series about 4 episodes left to go (and it'd interest me much) while I haven't bothered to watch it all this series (apart from 15 minutes half an ago when I was downstairs and somebody else was watching the repeat on BBC Three)

I'd be amazed, if it returns for another series next year.

+1, used to love it but its gone 'stale', maybe its the tasks or the candidates but its just a bit rubbish now, the US one is still going from strength to strength though so if you can get your hands on that.

I can see them going back to the young apprentice for next year.

I think both the Trump and Sugar versions are a pale shadow of their former selves .... Trump has also permanently abandoned the normal (non-celeb) version of the show (apart from a one-off return in the fall 2010 as Trump's response to the recession), which renders the programme title meaningless, with tasks mainly marketing/advertising based (one huge prime time major network product placement for the featured company/product) rather than making money

even though I do agree with everything thats been said. It could also be a case of really bad pick of contestants .

whoever found this lot should be sacked.

We know there not really the best 12 out of 100,000 applicants or whatever it is and they are picked on there egos and personality apart from the odd 1 or 2 but as already said this years lot are instantly forgetable.

Even there inflated egos arnt funny like someone such as Stuart Baggs "the brand" .

I dont know any of there names and the woman that went off this week I just didnt get her at all she just constantly scowed all the time as for the lot thats left very very weak .

Perhaps we wouldnt mind so much if they were really amazing at the tasks and the format changed a bit and you sit there and think "blimey that was good thinking" but alas no the same rediculous mistakes and not even a personality to go with it .

Watching it last night, I was asking myself exactly this question.

I think it has just run its course and the format has got tired. Give it long enough and every show will go the same way. It used to be "must-watch" TV but now it sits on the Sky box for days before we get around to watching it. It would be interesting to compare the ratings for the successive series. This and the last one would, I suspect, be rather than lower than the first two or three series.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? was much the same for me. I used to watch it regularly but eventually just lost interest. Familiarity breed contempt....

I would actually watch a real show made up of serious business people, it doesn't have to be dull, it just doesn't need a bunch of attention seekers shouting at each other constantly.

I've maintained for the last few series the way to bring the show back is to add a "Miriam" twist.

Get an ordinary person with a sharp mind, good ideas and common sense, maybe they run their own market stall, or small business or something. The type of every man you meet at the pub, drop them in there with this bunch of idiots with a back story similar to those of the other candidates and see how a real human being stacks up against them.

Let the public in on it from the off, maybe even Sugar doesn't know who they are, im convinced a normal person with common sense could win The Apprentice.

Just to have someone voicing the same disbelief I experience while watching would be worth it. Nicks comments and expressions used to be good for that but even he has lost his edge a bit.

They pitch the show at the lowest common denominator for the ratings but i don't think they need to personally, not everyone who works in real business is that dull.

Id go along with that , would be good to have a twist like that .
We know there are people without the massive egos ect who run buisneses who could win this.
even 4 or 5 normal people, they dont all have to constantly tell us how great they are and the punchline is then to watch then say or do the most rediculous things.

after watching it every series more or less so far, I hadn't bothered this time round.

I caught the ep this week (Pop-up shop) & found it to be very dull.

In all honesty, it's been in decline for a while.....

In 5-6 years time we will be saying the same about 'The Voice'.

All good things come to an end once repetition and dropped standards kick in.

God Lisa's really really annoying me, she has such a complex. She needs putting down.

I actually think they spend too long on the firing process. Im more keen to see what happens on the task and find out about the people. The firing goes on a bit..... all the blaming, chitter chatter...I think I would just like a quick build up to the punchline......I worked out last week that a third of the programme was dedicated to the 'boardroom firing' scenes.....

Yeah thats a big reason i prefer the american one, the show is longer so they have time to fit the task in rather than just the funny bits

I remember in the first few series it use to be at least 45 mins for the task but then I think it was '07 when they switched it to the current 20 mins or so for the firing which is way too long

yep, they really draw out those boring set pieces - the cafe scenes and the scripted corny wisecracks during the winning team's treat
