The Girl (BBC2) Alfred Hitchcock Drama

Sienna Miller (The Edge of Love), Toby Jones (Frost/Nixon), Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) and Penelope Wilton (Iris) have signed on to star in a BBC Two drama about iconic filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock.

Quote:
Written by Gwyneth Hughes, the as-yet-untitled 90-minute film – described by BBC Drama commissioner Ben Stephenson as “a riveting psychological portrait” – will center on Hitchcock (Jones) and his obsession with actress Tippi Hedron (Miller).

Staunton and Wilton will provide support as Alma Hitchcock and Peggy Robertson, respectively. Julian Jarrold (Appropriate Adult) will direct.

First look at Toby Jones as Hitchcock & Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren, in BBC drama, The Girl.

Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane) is directing, with Hitchcok biographer Donald Spoto onboard to ensure the film’s accuracy.

Hedren has also been in contact with Jarrold and the production, though she recently expressed some concern;
Quote:
“If I have one reservation about the film it is that I worry they will not portray me as as strong a character as I was – and still am. I had to be extremely strong to fight off Mr. Hitchcock.”

Thanks for the picture of Toby Jones and Sienna Miller, Rai. Miller looks very attractive in it, although I'm not sure about Jones as Hitchcock.

It's funny how a movie starring Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock is coming out close to this tv drama, and if you compare Hopkins' appearance as AH to Jones' then it causes Jones' portrayal to look a lot less authentic. But I'd imagine that his performance in the role will help in stopping viewers from focussing on how little Jones looks like the great director.

Something similar happened to Jones when his portrayal of Truman Capote came out, namely that the film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman came out the year before and won rave reviews. I haven't actually seen Jones' version but I thought that Capote was a great film.

Edit - Looks like there are going to be a lot of good dramas coming from BBC.
