This show is fantastic, and I don't understand the constant mention of 24 in your posts? If you want to watch 24, go fill your boots with all 8 seasons.

For something a bit more measured, but gripping, then I don't think anyone can go far wrong with Homeland. And please, no more 24 comparisons as this isn't 24

Well if you see the way they market the show they are the ones who mention that it's from the Executive Producers of 24. If the show is nothing like 24 then don't mention the fact.

Most reviews I have read for the show have mentioned this fact and if you watch the promo below you will see at the 40 second mark they mention the fact also.

But all they are doing when saying made by the Executive Producers of 24 is trying to sell people on the quality of the show - same people who brought you a highly successful tv show = this new show will be as well made and produced.

If you thought that meant a 24 clone then that is your mistake, sorry

I don't buy into what marketing and adverts tell me, which always simplifies and falsifies and will always link a new film or series to something that was already successful. I think once you're an adult that's a lesson one should have learned. Therefore it's always a good idea to come to something new with an open mind. I'm glad Homeland is not a carbon copy of 24, a show that was preposterous fun for a couple of seasons and which ran out of steam when it ended up repeating it's limited box of tricks over and over.

Spot on. Enjoyable, but ultimately tiresome in the end.

Well I'm loving the show. Yes it is quite slow paced but I feel it's slowly boiling underneath and soon it'll unleash a major shock
I can see similarities with 24, definitely, not just the terrorism story but it's like a grown up, more serious version without all the guns, running and twists but with an intriguing, story which I hope pays off in the end.

Btw - do we know how many episodes this is going to be? It seems like a 12/13 episode sort of program, I can't see them stringing it out successfully for 24 episodes.

12 or 13 episodes is also my favourite length for US series that tell a continuing story. There is less of a chance of poor filler episodes and they don't outstay their welcome.

Talking about possible twists etc, I have pretty much bought in to the premise of Brody as the Manchurian Candidate, so to speak, but after a chat with a mate today, he did voice this theory -

that maybe Saul is more than we believe - there is a mole somewhere in homeland - who tipped the dodgy professor's wife off that he was being tailed? Did Brody slip the terrorist the razorblade as the show was at pains to make us think, or was it Saul when he was in the room on his own with the guy? Why did we get a close up of the rug on Saul's floor when he flipped the edge back over...prayer mat?
It at least made me think, and there may well be more layers to this show than we are currently seeing, either way I am really enjoying it as well

I think that theory (in the spoilers) is very plausible and the one I was thinking off

I'm enjoying it although it does seem to be a poor mans rubicon. Which given how good that was is no bad thing indeed.

Enjoyed Episode 5 - Blind Spot, and what happened with

the prisoner was interesting, as mentioned above was it Saul - blade in the notepad, rug was interesting, but could be a red herring, was it Brody in the blind spot, or was the blade hidden in the food

what is she up to?
- extreme dedication to the job or extreme libido? (probably both)

a clue/red herring with that interrupted polygraph?

I think she's a complete nutter!
Can't believe she's still working for the agency with the way she behaves!

Episode 6: The Good Soldier

Good episode

If they get any sort of evidence it's likely to be dismissed now anyway Spoiler

if Brody is guilty. Is she going to sleep with
< Saul next as he is also having wife troubles

I think the interrupted poly is a red herring, as with the mat, they are too obvious...

As for Carrie and her actions with Brody, she is bi-polar (I think? definitely some mental illness) and we already know she likes to go out and pick up men for sex, so it certainly fits her character. As for the polygraph stuff...it may well be a red herring, but I dunno, I also think that

the girl who was with the professor, she seemed to be more spy-trained than terrorist trained. I wonder if there is some deep interagency/black ops programme, with her as an agent who was supposed to recruit the professor, plant a bomb and leave him for dead as the patsy. Now whoever is behind it is cleaning house??
Excellent stuff

^^^ that's almost getting into 24 conspiracy territory, of which Howard Gordon is of course a dab hand at producing .... and I think that you're on the right lines

Episode 7: The Weekend - 9/10

Wow, didn't know where this episode was going, but things heated up towards the end with the character opening up. But here's the shocker, (Spoiler!)

Brody's dead partner Tom Walker is alive and was turned, and the american POW they should be tracking.

At first i felt they wasted all this build up on Brody, so is Brody part of the deception, having had them all fooled that Tom Walker was dead, allowing Walker to go unnoticed plotting his mission, or did the terrorists play him in thinking he killed Walker? Didn't Brody have nightmares about killing Walker.

i skipped next week's highlights as i don't want to know.

Great show, can't wait to how it plays out.

This gets better and better!

Have to laugh at the constant drink driving...I assume they're just showing the reckless disregard of Brody & Mathison!

Great episode...can't wait until next week!
