Such a shame there isn't any more seasons to follow.

The new I, Claudius remake will start exactly where Rome ended.

The old I, Claudius starts where Rome ended! Have to say I love both. Can't imagine a better Caligula than John Hurt. Staying on topic Rome is one of my favourite TV shows of all time.

I started I Claudius a few weeks ago but didnt get past the first episode, really poor production values and has not aged well.

Worth sticking with?

YES!!! I thought the same, very theatrical production values, but I persisted. My wife loved it as much as me and we have since watched it a few times. Some amazing acting and quite racy/gory at times. Definitely watch it.

Another Rome fan here. If you want more historical accuracy 'BBC Ancient Rome The Rise and Fall of a Empire' is worth a watch. Historian Mary Beard was on hand as part of the series. It's part narrated part dramatised series with some battles thrown in. Shame its not on BluRay. Short too at just six episodes covering the main events/ people of the Empire.

Absolutely loving this show at the moment! Got 2 episodes left then its all over, but one I'll definately put onto my iPad to watch again on the commute in due time. I don't see what everyone is going on about the historical accuracy for though.

To me the main plot follows quite accurately to historic records, obviously the side stories are fictional but the rest of it is quite accurate, at least based on what I've read so far.

One thing I don't agree on though is the changes of Octavious' character, I thought the first Octavious was by far the better actor.

Have you read the link I posted earlier? Rome is a fantastic series - excellent TV drama - but just because it uses names and concepts from the era doesn't mean it is accurate.

Sorry don't think I was quite clear enough on what I meant. I certainly agree that this is not a historical documentary but the general sorry line was pretty accurate I think.

The crossing of the Rubicon, the Ides of march, Octavians adoption, Brutus` betrayal etc etc

I can see what people say about it not being 100% accurate but this was a prime time drama sites based on the events of the time and in that way I feel it was done well.

The examples you cite though are all just events that Rome latches onto whilst quite happily altering context and content to suit the storyline. Doctor Who does exactly the same.
