I enjoyed it but it certainly wore it's influences on it's sleeve.

Obviously 1984 was the big influence but there were hints of Network (in the commodification of righteous passion) and even THX 1138 the old Lucas film.

Plus the central message of the meaningless of existence in (our) dystopian world was pretty hackneyed, if increasingly accurate. It all felt a little easy to me.

I thought it was really chilling which I guess it was setting out to achieve but at the same time incredibly boring and hard work to sit through, plus they were marketed as black comedies or satirical takes on something, the first could be classed in that category-just about imo, I definitely dont think this one could

I didn t get to see the first episode, but i thought this 2nd episode was excellent. Did anyone get the same feeling i did from the last shot of the epsisode...

Where he is stood in fron of the window looking out at the lush green forest. Had the world abolished a lot of pollutants, i.e. powerstations, and human beings were being used to power things for themselves allowing the natural world to thrive.
If this was answered in the 1st 5 mins of the show, then i apologise as my recording clashed so missed it.

I thought the second was a good tale, but paced a tad too slow.

I didn't see it as a window, just another television screen, all be it in a bigger, lighter room. We really never saw any of the 'modern' except within the building

Episode 3 was ok, but I felt the premise could have been used better, Brooker's writing was notable by it's absence.

Good to see Toby Kebbell again though, I think I've only seen him in a couple of things since his fantastic performance in Shane Meadow's Dead Man's Shoes.

Enjoyed episode 3, The Entire History Of You.
Very good series overall, hope there is more to come from Brooker.

I thought part 3 had the most 'natural' writing and skillful acting, especially from the wife. 2 out of 3 is pretty good going (didn't enjoy the 15 million merits one as much) and the situation that the characters were going through seemed much more relatable.

Yes, really enjoyed the last one. I would agree, 15 million merits was the weakest of the 3.

Managed to miss the first one completely, but have the other two on my Sky+ box - do I need to source Ep 1 first or are they standalone tales?

They are standalone, complete separate stories and characters, but the first has the shock factor to get your attention.

The first one is the only one written by Charlie Brooker, which is why it stands far above the other two (ok, he did co-write the second one with his wife). It's the only one with Brooker's biting satirical wit.

The other two, while I can see the thematic link he was going for, are limp by comparison.

Third one was the best in my opinion, first one was pretty close and the second one was just OK.

The third one felt really different from the first two, it felt more like an old school drama, a Play For Today if you like. It had me squirming in my seat a number of times, and not just at the ending. The first one was great for the acting and the sheer bravado of convincing us that the preposterous could actually be reality. The second one, like I've said before was a kind of by-the-numbers rant against the X-Factor generation, the big speech and the Peter Finch thing. Not bad but weaker than the first two for my money.

I'd definitely tune in to another series, even the weakest of the three was pretty good.

Only seen the second one so far ('15 Million Merits'), caught it last night and will now try and watch the other two as it was pretty good.

While searching out the song she sang (Jessica Brown-Findlay singing "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)" I found something that suggests Charlie Brooker was tweeting about trying to get the song to number 1 as this year's battle against the usual X Factor tripe. I assume he means the original version unless Jessica's (assuming she really sang it) has been put on iTunes.

Ironic that a song featured on a show skitting talent shows like X Factor is probably better than the songs featured on those talent shows. I certainly liked it enough to search out.

This new tv advert is the kind of thing Charlie Brooker would have maybe written

Directed by Ringan Ledwidge ('Gone' 2007)

Sorry for bring back an old thread.....

Series 2 is due to start very soon and I was lucky enough to get tickets to the BFI last night to see the first episode as well and trailers for the other 2 with a Q+A with Brooker.

Episodes are entitled 'Be Right Back', 'White Bear' and 'The Waldo Moment'

Will be another cracking series of excellent thought provoking drama. Cant wait to see them on all

Again each episode has a smashing cast and director. Last night's 'Be Right Back' stars Dredd and Never Let Me Go’s Domhnall Gleeson and the lovely Hayley Atwell (Captain America)

Did anyone ask why there is no Bluray release for this yet?

Any good questions/answers that you can remember?

I think Brooker would be a good person for a Q&A about pretty much anything.

Yes he was fantastic – he comes across very laid back/natural about everything. Was interesting to hear how some concepts for the new series came about from fairly simple ideas.
Hayley Atwell (who is superb in this) spend most of it telling the audience about scenes that were cut out of the episode we saw despite sitting with the write, director and producer! In fairness some of the deleted scenes sounded quite interesting.

This Chortle write up is pretty much a summary of what was discussed for anyone interested though it also summarises the plots of the other episode previews we saw so have a tad of spoiler alert in them:

As for the HD/Blu Ray – nothing was asked but know he was recently surprised that his 2012 Review was only shown on BBC2 despite it being fully filmed in HD!
I am hoping that Series 1 and 2 will come out on Blu Ray…..

Unlike most TV shows, I am finding myself still thinking about parts of the episode days later. Can’t wait for the episode entitled White Bear. Form the trailer it looked like a pretty unnerving hour of TV.

Just saw the trailer on sfx website and came to post but beat to it again.

Love this trailer, wouldn't like to try and sell Brooker a mobile. I think he should make a cameo in the next season of PhoneShop.
