I'm sure he will grow on us in time. He just doesn't have the same screen presence as Andy! And he's physically not big enough. He really needs to start bulking up.

I can sort of see what direction it's going in with crixus/ashur/oenomaus

Hope to see Ganicus in this show!

Pretty much sums up my sentiments too. Watched the first 3 episodes over the past 3 nights and the story seems to have finally got going after a very patchy first couple of episodes.

I also hope that the new actor playing Spartacus bulks up, as hasn't got the physical presence for the role at the moment and looks more like a house slave than a gladiator.

surely? He was one of my favourite along with Lucy Lawless.

Did the actress who plays Navia change? It doesn't look like her...
I certainly hope not.

Looks like a new actress playing Naevia (Character)

Well if they are trying somewhat to follow history then

Crixus
should be safe. I'm sure you already knew but if not there really was a

Crixus and Oenomaus
.

Yes the actress has changed.

I just about got over Andy, this week, i still keep thinking in every scene that Andy would have better, that intensity is still missing, bu the new guy is giving it a good crack.

Btw Andy was tiny, this guy probably outweighs him by 30lbs or more, Andy was a shorty compared to this dude.

Whitfield was apparently 5'10" compared to McIntyre' 6'2" so a bit of a height difference. However Whitfield looked the part whilst McIntyre didn't have enough time to properly bulk up in the time between finding out he was to take the role and the start of filming. Hopefully he'll be rather more ripped as the season progresses.

Quote:
WHEN LIAM MCINTYRE AUDITIONED FOR THE television drama Spartacus: Vengeance, he couldn't have looked less fit for the title role. He was fresh off a movie called Frozen Moments, playing a man who had awakened from a coma. Skinny made sense for that. For Spartacus? Not so much.

But McIntyre is a good actor, so the Starz network put him at the top of its list, with one major caveat: At go time, he'd better look the part of a rebel warrior.

Liam McIntyre Files

McIntyre has worked in theater, television and film. He made his U.S. debut as Bell Captain Lew in HBO’s “The Pacific.”

That he got cast as the muscled Spartacus surprised McIntyre because he had lost 45 pounds for a previous role. Once he landed the part, the real work started.

“I got a military trainer and they just kept upping the stakes and seeing what they could do to me. It was everything from just lift really heavy weights to run and lift heavy weights a lot, and it went for three or four months, and then they finally put me out of my misery and then said, ‘Keep training,’ ” he says.

It's missing John Hannas one liners and scheming but I'm still enjoying this all the same. The Illythia character is pretty good and seems to be developing nicely, no pu intended!! I wonder if Gannacus (spl) will make an appearance this season.

The new Spartacus was always going to have a tough job carrying on from Andy, but to be fair he is doing well and looks comfortable in the fight scenes.

That explains a lot re his physique.

I wonder in episode 1 how much of that 45lbs he had gained back.

He still looks relatively out of shape compared to the other guys.

6'2 compared to 5'10 is a big deal on film, he could easily dwarf Andy if he gains significant mass.

Andy was not a big guy at all, he was just very lean and clearly doing a bazillion sets of pumping up exercises before each scene.

Is Gannicus confirmed as making an appearance sometime?

I'm sure I saw him in the trailers but maybe that was a flashback sequence?

He was in the trailer, and they announced it before release I'm sure.

I didn't really like the last episode to be honest, the mine scene was a bit ridiculous. Plus even tho I do like the new Spartacus lad, I'm afraid the show is more Crixus these days. A much more interesting character now.

How times have changed......

Even Barrymore could have safely thrown partys back then

Great episode, really kicked it up a gear, great ending as well.

I'm slowly warming to Spartacus, but he's still not there yet.

Liam is good and getting better but for me he is far from the level of Andy.

A good episode, I think I can guess where we're headed with the arena return for Oenamaus and Crixus ;D

And just how damn hot is Ilythia? I think she just might be my perfect woman!

Albeit, well over a thousand years old

I'm continuing to enjoy this. Plenty of plot being developed as we go along.

Good episode, nice to see a familiar face back in the role he ended up in.

A few random musings I have though-

I think its not that I didnt like the new spartacus actor but rather that up until now didnt like his 'storyline' this season, good to see they finally stopped the incredibly boring running through the forest story.

The new Navea (sp?) is not a good character imo, she just comes across a bit pathetic, i irrationally find her annoying, that and shes not much of a looker.

Wouldnt these people die of very minor wounds in this era, if nothing else, from infection. How are they stabbed with swords every episode and brush it off.

Will the new brunette ever get her kit off, swear thats half the reason i stuck with it until now

money! That and the draw of the arena.

Also as I understand it many gladiators weren't actually slaves and were there for the the thrill and rewards.
