What is the West Wing Like ?

my grandad has season 1 and 2 on dvd. he hasnt got chance to watch them yet so may have a go! being as massive massive 24 fan (as you can tell ) and a massive alias fan what can i expect from it (dont give me spoilers please) ? in my eyes it wont compare to 24 (biased ) as i hear it gets to polictical and i know before ppl start ranting its about politics! is the show fast or slow paced ?, are there big plot twists and nasty character's ? i cant see it being a bad show as its in its 5th Season and martin sheen is in it. any comments would be great. thanks

It's a political/intellectual drama, heavy on characters and dialogue and very little action, very educational as well, learnt a lot about the US political system after watching the show since it first appeared on SKY1 and then moved to E4 and then got fed up of waiting and downloaded season 5

It is fantastic - the pace for a dialogue driven show can be very fast. Sometimes its hard to keep up, especially if you know nothing about US politics.

However the writing, acting and tension the show builds up is great - I love it

...Its also very funny when it needs to be as well.

I think you'll find that '24' takes a distant second place.
I do like it but it can have too much action and some pretty unbelievable and damn unlucky scenarios especially for one day

WW on the other hand is more intelligently written and comes across as more 'real' for it.

They are not exactly in competition though

do not come into my thread and punish my 24 only messing opinions is everything but imo 24 wouldnt come second. after reading peoples comments its sounds like a very good show for its genre but i may give it a miss. i think i need some action in my series. as my grandad keeps saying that's all you young people think about is bang bang kill kill...what a silly old fool
maybe in a few years when im wiser

...Aye maybe when you're older you'll appreciate it more.

You don't honestly think '24' is realistic though do you? :D

nope i dont think its that realistic but i dont watch it for realism! i watch it for Entertainment which is what the industry is about and also for the suspense! you watch it and escape your own life and delve into another. another reason why i watch alias which is even more far fetched but again entertaining. i love the matrix films but i dont think i can fly another reason for not watching the west wing is i cant stand politics and have no knowledge of it what so ever again i can blame it on being young hehe

Give it a go...go on. I like 24 also, but it is completely different. Treat yourself to some proper TV. I'm not a lover of politics either, but they make it really interesting and exciting. If you've got access to season 1 & 2 just try it..what have you got to lose?

Ok.
When the west wing first hit our screens I was not the slightest bit interested. The advert made it look like another crap us export that would be difficult to follow and not very interesting to a stargate sg1, steven seagal, die hard, startrek, action junkie ie ME
However For some reason while sitting at home not doing a great deal one night I happened to be channel surfing and came across an intreeging program about life in the white house staring martin sheen. ON further investigation I found out it was the west wing. A couple of episodes latter and I was hooked!!!!!! I now own all the dvds and am looking forward to the season 5 premier tonight on E4.
A word of warning though. It is possible to just start watching the show but you will enjoy it more if you have some info on the back storys. START WATCHING THOSE DVDS NOW!!!!!!

Give it a go. No question, TV is about entertainment and '24' has that in spades (Elisha Cuthbert... ). 'The West Wing' is a different type of entertainment. Less reliant on action and bullets, and more on characters and writing. Hope you enjoy it .
