Cool Leviathan Anybody Seen It

Leviathan this underwater film came out round the same time as The Abyss but from what I can gather was more of a monster film but I have never seen it on TV yet. Can anyone tell me if its any good ore not?

Please no plot spoilers.

I saw it when it was first released on video over here, so that's over 10 years ago, I thought it was OK but slightly disappointing. It does owe a big debt to The Abyss and The Thing though, aswell as being quite similar to Deepstar 6. It's not really a "good" film, but it entertains the same as something like Deep Rising does - in a B movie monster flick kind of way.

Don't expect top quality and you'll probably enjoy it for what it is. If it's cheap, that's even better.

Cool

I liked Deep Rising although it may have been helped staring Famke Jansen and having a score by Jerry Goldsmith.

I think 'deep rising' is a good film to compare it to.
Instead of Famke you get Amanda Pays
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/amanda.pays/scansp/pays/s.htm
The soundtrack might not be so good, but the F/X are from Stan Winston.

The problem with Leviathan is that most of the FX's have been edited out. I went to NFT years ago to see a talk buy Nick Allder, who said that a lot of the excellent work done by Stan Winston and himself was unseen due to the terrible editing of the movie. Not only did this rob the film of it's main appeal to genre fans, but it diminished Ron Cobbs stylish production design.

I believe, that director Geroge Pan Cosmatos, earnt the nickname George Pan Comatose on this film.

I like deep rising. Its tongue in cheek and plenty happens over the course of the film. I still half expect them to run into jamie lee curtis and some rubbish alien robots at some point though.

Deep Rising is actually a very good film overall. Very enjoyable.

Leviathan is a watch it once and then sort of remember it 10 years later and say, yeah it was ok.

I only remember a monster in a cupboard and the finale.

Oh, and people get eaten don't they?

Deepstar 6 thanks Rambo, been trying to remember that films name for years. Only thing i could remember about it was it starred that bloke that looked a bit like Paul Coia from those crap daytime quiz shows from years ago......who i now realise is the bloke from Policy Academy 5 and 6.

Matt Mcoy, thats his name.

Oh and a good bit where a pressure suit got bit in half by the thing, is that the right movie?

Didn't leviathan have you commanding officer in it Rambo?

I suppose these must be avaible on DVD somewhere by now?

Leviathan's only out on R1 (for around £4 if you go with DVD Soon, around the £6 mark elsewhere), Deepstar 6... you can get the UK disc for around £5 these days and, yes, it's the one you're thinking of.
