I really want to see this but I am going to wait as the picture quality looked pretty poor.

I am going to give it a look tonight. What is so bad about the quality? Blurry or something? As long as the sound is clear and in sync I can probably cope until the 31st.

As its a pre air episode its not broadcast quality. The picture wasn't full screen and it looked like a cross between vhs and a cam from what little I saw. I will definitely wait for the proper version.

Yes the quality wasnt brilliant but as i mentioned it will look better in HD although i think its going for a washed out look rather than brilliant colours

FX UK are advertising this as starting on November 5th, the directors cut, no less.

The image had huge black borders all round, and the jaggies were awful, turned it off after 30 secs. Waiting till next week.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Preair episode. Even got used to Andrew Lincoln playing the lead. The mixture of suspense and dread is well done. Will watch again when it comes on FX UK but with of course much better quality picture. Only shame is that there are only 6 episodes planned for the first season.

The first episode was reportedly to be 90mins, but looking at the running time on the pre-air its only 67mins, they might have the missing minutes to the following episodes.

It's possible that they meant 90 min when the ad breaks are included.

Cant wait!!

This year has been pretty poor for new shows and my regular shows (Dexter, Sons of Anarchy) haven't really been that good this season.

Watched a bit of the pre-air pilot last night and thought it looked ace - really really promising, lots of atmosphere and menace and the lead guy was really good - much better American accent than Hugh Laurie's effort. And zombies are, of course, utterly awesome. Can't wait

Oh, and if anyone's not seen Dead Set yet, you're missing a proper treat. They showed it as a complete 2 hour 'film' last year and it was brilliant

Ha, if you think that is shocking, wait until later on. I'm saying nothing more

I had never heard of this graphic novel until I read about the TV series being filmed. I took a punt and bought the compendium vol 1. Pretty much read it in one sitting, great stuff. Really looking forward to the series, fingers crossed they get it right and dont compromise too much

Just brought Dead Set which was shown on E4 off play for £5, looks really good and should make Halloween a good day for zombiefest.

watched the preair and really enjoyed it...I thought it was a US take on 28 days later...not sure if that's related to the books as well??

They both feature zombies (or 'infected') and both have an opening hospital scene. I think the similarity ends there.

Darabont is no Danny Boyle.

OK...wondered whether they were both based on the same story. The start was very similar to 28 and different to all other zombie movies I've seen...bloke has accident and wakes up many weeks later. Wanders the empty streets in a night gown...meets a father and kid shored up on their own and starts travelling with them...I agree it stopped there but I would have believed it if someone said it was a remake.

Anyway, very much looking forward to the series to start

Its actually based on a comic of the same name. (The walking dead)

Its possible the writer was influenced by 28 days later, (only the first comic though, and therefore the first ep of the show)

And of course Romero who started this whole Zombie thing

Yeah, I guess any zombie-related material is going to have similar elements.

Anyone know how far in the comic this first season goes? Darabont mentioned a scene he would like in the second season which gives me an idea (as long as they are being faithful to the timeline).

The whole waking up in a deserted hospital scenario was first seen in Day of The Triffids.

Well done, but really, what the hell was the point of the first 2 minutes? At least they kept it quite close to the novels.
