Cool

I believe he does not like the film he made Eyes of an Angel which isn’t that bad, but he is acted of the screen by a child and even more so by the dog.

I'm not a JT fan particularly but I must protest, Pulp Fiction top film - although I believe it was a good thing he was shot so they didn't do a tacky sequel. It was such a good film it even brought the best out of Bruce! Post should read JTs been in some s***
films.

I disagree. I must say i like nearly all the movies iv'e seen him in, Apart from "Michael"
But at the end of the day i doubt He nor his bank manager nor his producer care what we think. The guy is garanteed money and entertainment.
And in my opinion has a film list that would be hard to beat, By many "Modern" Actors.
Ok he's no Patrick Stewert or Kennith Branher but hey.

Grease,
Face Off
Ther Generals daugter
Broken Arrow
Swordfish
Phnomenonmenomenomenon
Pulp Fiction
sat Night Fever.
Look Who's talking.

Ok, let me explain (i wrote that post in haste yesterday)

Good films hes been in:
Saterday Night Fever
Grease
Pulp Fiction
Face Off

Bad films hes been in:

all the rest

While PF is a fantastic film its not fantastic because hes in it - its fantastic because of the script, the direction, the editing etc etc

I fail to see what is so good about him, before PF his career was in the dumper - QT saved it - so he could go and ruin it again with the likes of Broken Arrow, Battlefield Earth, Swordfish (laughably bad) After seeing the woeful "Basic" at the weekend i just thought i should post

Hes in a same class as Keanu Reeves - sh*te and over paid!

Gary

PS: Lex sorry about using the wrong forum

Don't judge actors by their turkeys: where would that leave Michael Caine and Kenin Costner?

I think it's down to terrible choices of films more than anything else. I can't think of a good film he was bad in. But I do think his real talent lies in gangster parts, like pulp fiction and get shorty (which for me was saved by his and Dennis Farina's performances).

Ok i've done a little research and i've come up with the following:

All the figures quoted are from IMDB, so they have been voted on by us, the public, not critics and not movie insiders. (also no of his TV work has been included and nothing pre SNF (as it was at that point that he became a "star"

I think that everyone here would accept that Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Pulp Fiction were landmarks in JT's career. Get shorty and Face/off were also pretty good

So after Grease (6.8) and Saturday Night Fever (6.5) he made the following films:

Look Who's Talking Now (3.6)
Shout (4.3)
Eyes of an Angel (4.7)
Look Who's Talking Too (3.7)
Experts, The (4.1)
Look Who's Talking (5.5)
Perfect (4.0)
Two of a Kind (3.7)
Staying Alive (3.8)

Average Mark = 4.1 (hardly a stellar career!!)

Then he made Pulp Fiction (8.7)

Then he went on to star in:

swordfish 6.2
Basic 6.2
Domestic Disturbance 5.4
Battlefield Earth 2.4
General's Daughter, The 6.1
Civil Action 6.1
Primary Colors 6.8
Mad City 6.0
Face/Off 7.1
She's So Lovely 5.7
Michael 5.5
Phenomenon 6.3
Broken Arrow 5.7
Get Shorty 7.0
White Man's Burden 5.0

Average mark 5.8 (a bit better than pre PF but not much better)

So if we take out his "accepted good films" namely Saturday Night Fever, Grease Pulp Fiction, Get shorty and Face/off.

were left with an average mark of 5.0

If we include them its 5.9

So i think the best we can say is that JT is just average.

Gary

Ps i'm sure hes a nice guy, good to his kids and never kicks his dog - but hes just so crap!

He gets to choose when and where he works.
he has a hot wife, Healthy kids, A huge Estate And Two Lear jets.
And he gets to make money doing somthing he loves.
the best i Or anyone on this forum can hope for is to get a lovely Home Cinema to watch these people, doing something they love.

What the point in critisising People that are more successful than ourselfs, It just makes us sound bitter.

And whats with all the points
3.8
7.3
8.1
You really care that much about dislikeing JT that you would go to that much trouble. Hu

i can understand people being sucessful if they are any good at what they do - but when they are as bad as he is (and Mr Reeves) it just makes you ask yourself what is the world coming too!!!

After all if people go and see his films then the powers that be actully think hes good at it at because he makes them money.

I'm not bitter that hes successful - good luck to him as i said i'm sure hes a really nice bloke.

What i cant get my head round is that people think he's good. people still pay thier hard earned money to see his films.

(and it wasnt really any trouble doing that research - i work in IT so i know my round a pc)

Garyd is entitled to his opinion as you are. Some one was criticizing George Lucas the other day and he is successful. But that’s there opinion not bitterness.

As to Garyd IMDB mark of 4.7 for Eyes of an Angel I would give it an higher mark although a long way from a truly great film but that’s my opinion and 4,7 is others.

To say that JT is crap.......... is crap, he has been in some crap films, with battlefield earth probably ranking as the crapest. IMO his performances in Pulp fiction and face off are about his best and those performances alone prove he's not crap.

Garyd if you think this

Obviously you went to see Basic knowing he was crap

i watched "Basic" because i like the director and i really like most of the work of Sam L Jackson. Also i work PT for blockies so seeing "Basic" cost me nothing - so he'll get no air miles out of me.

In my previous post all i was trying to get at is that (with the exception SNF) for the most part most of JT performances are rubbish - even in PF hes not that good, yes the film is fantastic, but its not fantastic because of JT, he doesnt act everybody else off screen - you dont walk away from that film thinking JT is the best actor you've even seen. In the same way one does after seeing De Niro in Taxi Driver. Or Nic Cage in Leaving Las Vegas (depressing film but Cage is fantastic)

I think his best performance is in SNF, and although hes been in some good films since, he has failed to be electricfing in anything. Maybe one day JT will surprise me and show the talent that he once had.

Gary

I thought BASIC was pretty good.
Not a work of art, not the best thing I've ever seen but a couple of hours of good escapism.

Some of the Hollywood ' Legends', eg John Wayne, Bogart, James Stewart, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper etc etc, gave similar performances in most of their movies throughout their careers but that does not detract one iota from the enjoyment derived from a lot of their work ------------ at least for me!
I'm giving my age away now!!

Brian.

...You seem to want everyone to accept that as fact and not just as your opinion.

I don't recall anyone stating he was the best actor in the world though
