Star Trek Pilot episode - digitally remastered - Today on CBS Action

Just a heads up for people who may miss it.

Zone channels have become CBS channels today and CBS action is showing the original series of star trek, remastered, and today is the pilot episode.

Also CBS drama is showing dynasty starting today.

They are spoiling us.

Re: Star Trek Pilot episode - digitally remastered - Today on CBS Action

Zone could get away with pretty much low end resolution and bitrates, I hope CBS have some pride in their output and boost the broadcast a little, the world has moved away from CRT's and compression issues are not going to encourage viewing.
I'm planning on rewatching SU2 again (it was on Scifi(?) I think many years ago) but PQ will be a factor to my continued viewing, too much choice around these days.

Are the TOS eps the digital remaster for the DVD release many years ago or the SD versions of the HD remastering?

I am not sure, i have never seen any remastered version. They look pretty good but aren't in the correct aspect ratio.

The channels look like they are half decent PQ.

Shame CBS didn't launch a HD channel. Star Trek would have been nice on that.

I watched about of the pilot and the matte paintings were a dead give away of the new master, impossible to tell based on PQ as it's to compromised but for the most part the NTSC sourced masters that CBS will be drawing from probably won't be taxing the channel resources.

Love the slave girl music and Vina puts more ummph in the character than the bland Orion girls in Enterprise and the latest movie.

Very strange without Captain Kirk though!

Yes they are zooming into the original framing to create a fake widescreen image, they should have really stuck to the original 4:3 framing of the classic series and the remastered versions and let the viewer mess with the ratios as they saw fit.

Gonna start watching these as I am more of a ST film fan as opposed to a tv fan. I know the basics and all but it's something I think I should do.
Something I have noticed with pilot (and I'm only halfway through) is the way Nimoy is playing Spock. He seems alot more-in-you-face compared to his more thoughtfull version of him.
