Why is JS not in HD

John Sergeant on the Tourist Trail | TV review | Television & radio | The Guardian
Good colour lovely scenery but poor res even for SD, why no HD, BBC HD are wasting space with rubbish programns like the making of modern britain which is almost all old low res film but to be fair most BBC programns where HD is beneficial are put out in HD , a large percentage of itv are now as well JS must have missed out.

I was wondering this myself yesterday.

ITV HD has shown some brilliant similar documentaries in HD, such as African Balloon Adventure, Billy Connelly Journey to the edge of the world and Martin Clunes Island of Britain, which is currently being repeated.

Seems very strange given that tourist trail was apparently filmed after the others.

Re: Why is JS not in HD

Perhaps Mentorn who actually make the show are not into HD yet or the budget simply wasn't there to make it possible and with limited overseas appeal less impetus to invest in HD.

Re: Why is JS not in HD

It was shot on an SD Digibeta camera. There's still quite a lot of recent SD stuff shot on this type of camera.

You can download the cameraman's CV to see what he used for different productions.

Camera — Films at 59 - Pre and Post Production

Even Strictly, the BBC's flagship show is still using SD cameras for the non-live footage!!
